Rachel Looney Obituary

She was the sunshine of our hearts. She knew God and loved to listen to Christian music with her "Grandma, Ruthie" whom she loved dearly. In addition to her parents, Dale and Barbara Looney, she is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Beth Looney and Sean Shadomy, of Gainesville, Ga.; her uncle, Neil Looney, of Salem; aunt, Carolyn Miller, of Norfolk, Va.; and several other aunts, uncles and cousins. Her memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m .Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at the Chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem, with the Rev. Ken Nienke officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
We, the family, greatly appreciate the assistance we have received by so many friends, family and strangers who quickly became our "Angels of Mercy" during our time of need. The employees of McDonalds, where Rachel loved to eat and their thoughtful prayers, as well as Kim who drove her mother to Lewis Gale Hospital ER, the Salem Rescue Squad, who tried so diligently to revive our angel, and the doctors and nurses of Lewis Gale Emergency Room, who so compassionately assisted us. May God bless you all. Online to condolences to the family may be made at www.johnmoakey.com. 540-389-5441.

Dale and Barbara~
I am so sad to think of not hearing Rachel's sweet "giggles" every Friday as i have for so many years now. Rachel was such a sweet spirit and everyone enjoyed her. She has now made heaven a little brighter. May God hold you both tight as you journey through this very difficult time.

Aunt Barbara, Uncle Dale, and Beth,
I want you to know you have been in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Rachel will never be forgotten and will always have a special place in our hearts. I remember when we were all children, and Beth and Rachel would visit Norfolk and we would all walk up to 7-11 together for slurpees. Those are the special memories that we will never forget. Love to you all

Dear Mr And Mrs Looney ,I am so sorry
to hear that Rachel Had Passed away
My prayers are with you.

August 30, 2009

I came to know you and your daughter as customer's at Salem Stylz, where my son often had his haircut after your daughter's appt. I will always remember the kind words that you said to me about my patience. I want you to know that I consider you to be a wonderful role model to all of us as parents to children with special needs. It is often a very difficult, but incredibly rewarding path to trod upon, raising a child with special needs. The thing that I will remember most about Rachel, is that she was always smiling, and seemed to be so happy. I know that must have been due to your compassion as parents. We truly will miss seeing her, but I know she is in heaven singing with the angels.
