Harvey Childress Obituary

Harvey Jerome (Chill) Childress, 64, of Roanoke, Va., departed this life on Tuesday, September 8, 2009. He was born in Roanoke County on July 7, 1945, to the late Rufus and Louise Starkey Childress. He was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Jerome was a veteran of the United States Army. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Lemon Childress. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Keisha; grandson, Savion; four sisters, Lillie Childress, of Roanoke, Rowena (James) Taylor ,of South Carolina, Tina Childress and Shawanda (Samuel) Stephens, both of Roanoke; three brothers, Alphonso (Sheree) Starkey, of Georgia, Thomas Lee (Lenore) Childress, of California, and Melvin Childress; one aunt, Nora Bonds; a very devoted companion, Wilhelmenia (Willie) Hubbard, all of Roanoke; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A special thanks to Dr. Lipscomb, social worker, Tracie Dickson, and staff at the VA Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 12, 2009, in the Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Thomas A. Woods Sr. officiating and the Rev. Brian Jackson, eulogist. The interment will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.Hamlar-Curtis.com.
