Dolly Breedlove Obituary

Dolly Mae Kelly Breedlove, 82, of Buchanan, Va., died early in the morning on Monday, September 14, 2009. Dolly was born on November 13, 1926. Preceding her in death were her husband of 52 years, William Owen (Bill) Breedlove; her parents, Loyd Rudolph Kelly and Gladys L. Edwards; her stepfather, Robert Edwards; and her brothers Rudolph, Carrol, and Calvin; and her daughter-in-law Debbie Breedlove. Surviving Dolly are her son, Byron Breedlove, his wife, Julie, and their children, Will and Claire; her son, Jeffrey Breedlove, his wife, Selena, and his children, Ryan and Rachel; and her half sister, Nancy Keller. Dolly also had two greatgrandchildren, Dominick and Nevaeh. Many other people were also special to her, including her cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a host of special friends and neighbors from across all times and walks of her life. Dolly, who was long-standing member of the Buchanan Presbyterian Church, lived and worked in or near the town of Buchanan for her whole life, except for a short time spent in Roanoke. She dearly loved the town, its people, and its places. Dolly graduated from Buchanan High School and until recently still attended its reunions. She loved her home and took great pride and joy in living there and entertaining guests and family. During their life together, she and Bill were able to travel and see many places. The family members would like to express their appreciation of the care provided for Dolly during the past year by the compassionate staff of Home Instead, Bethel Ridge Assisted Living, and SouthernCare Hospice. Visitation will be held at the Botetourt Funeral Home, 14920 Lee Highway in Buchanan, 540-254-3000, on Wednesday, September 16, 2009, from 6 until 8 p.m. and the burial service will be held there 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, 2009, with the Rev. Marina Gopadze officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Buchanan. Rather than flowers, her family requests that you consider donations in Dolly's memory to the Buchanan Presbyterian Church, the Buchanan Rescue Squad, the Buchanan Town Improvement Society, or another local or special organization or charity of your preference.

To the Breedloves:
I knew "Miss Dolly" only through attendance at Buchanan Presbyterian Church over the last four or five years. She was truly one of the most gracious people I've ever had the pleasure to meet. I hope you and yours wil take comfort in knowing that she now walks with the Lord.

Byron, Jeff and family,
I am so sorry I cannot be there with you all as you say farewell to Aunt Dolly; Krista and I both loved her gentle way of talking, she was a true southern lady. She was so thoughtful to send birthdays cards, and to call here to check on the family. Some of my best memories growing up were times spent at your house when we were all kids.
When we said our good-byes to our Mom, we made it a celebration of a life well lived, and I am sure you will want to do that as well. Remember, she will always be with you, a Mother's love and her words stay with you always.
I would prefer to send a donation to her church rather than send flowers. I was touched at her birthday party by the love the congregation so obviously felt for Aunt Dolly.
I will keep you all in my prayers and heart.

Dolly was one of my very favorite people. A true lady, she was always beautifully dressed and perfectly coiffed, a really lovely person. My mother and dad loved socializing with her and Bill for so many years. Back then, Buchanan had such a tight-knit group of friends that would all do anything for each other. \\\\ What a loss to all who knew her. She will be missed.
