Marion Long Obituary

Marion Rex Long, 79, of Sugar Grove, died Saturday, September 19, 2009, at his home. He was born on November 22, 1929, the son of the late Kilby Long and Hallie Long Bonham. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and retired from Brunswick Defense Corporation of Marion. He was also a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed a long and productive life that included farming, fishing, and riding his Harley Davidson well into his last year of life. He was preceded in death by his brother, Emory Eugene Long; and sister, Lola Mae Anderson. He is survived by a faithful and compassionate wife of 53 years, June Comer Long. He is also survived by his sister, Sadie Garrick Anderson and her husband, Scott Anderson; daughter, Shirley Diane Blevins and her husband, Jonithan Blevins; sons, Stephen Rex Long and his wife, Rebecca, of Sugar Grove, and Allan Long and his wife, Lisa, of Cedar Springs. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Laura Hall, Emily Long, Ellen Long, Hannah Long, Samuel Long and Sarah Long; and one greatgrandson, Christian Hall. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2009, at Bradley Funeral Home in Marion, with funeral service to follow at 8 p.m. Graveside services will be conducted on Tuesday, September, 22, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Slemp Cemetery in Sugar Grove. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Hospice of Southwest Virginia, 600 West Ridge Rd., Wytheville, Va. 24382. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley's Funeral Home of Marion is serving the family of Mr. Long.

Was sorry to hear about your fathers death. It is hard to except but things could have been worse.
