Kenneth Melton Obituary

Kenneth Dean Melton Sr., 66, of Blackwell Rd., in Scottsville, Va., departed this life on Friday, September 25, 2009, at his residence. He was born July 19, 1943, in Wise Co., Va., a son of the late Robert Melton and Lula Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his foster parents, Ralph and Hazel Johnson; and a daughter, Brenda Sue Melton. Mr. Melton was a handyman and member of the Charlottesville Moose. He was known to his many friends as "Porky" and "Whitey." He enjoyed Bluegrass music and working with his hands. Survivors include his companion, Ann Morris, of Barboursville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Scott Joyner, of Chester, Dawn and Danny Farthing, of Chester, and Kathey and Ben Cummings, of Hopewell; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Dean Jr., and Kristine Melton, of Fluvanna; several brothers and sisters including, Bob Melton, of Gate City, and Louise Farrish, of Salem; six grandchildren, Christopher, Kevin, Courtney, Kenneth III, Kaylee, and Benjamin Jr.; and a special friend, Donna Drumheller. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville by Pastor David Morris. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Buckingham County Rescue Squad, 13360 W. James Anderson Highway, Buckingham, Va., or to the American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Ct., Glen Allen, Va. 23060.

So sorry to hear about Porkey. Gosh we have known him for years. He was such a funny and caring man. Yeah we love Bluegraas music also. He will be dearly missed. May the Guardian Angels surround your faimily in this time of sorrow. We will miss him so much and our daughter too MaLinda.
