Kenneth Dean Melton Sr.

Kenneth Dean Melton Sr., 66, of Blackwell Rd., in Scottsville, Va., departed this life on Friday, September 25, 2009, at his residence. He was born July 19, 1943, in Wise Co., Va., a son of the late Robert Melton and Lula Fitzgerald. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his foster parents, Ralph and Hazel Johnson; and a daughter, Brenda Sue Melton. Mr. Melton was a handyman and member of the Charlottesville Moose. He was known to his many friends as "Porky" and "Whitey." He enjoyed Bluegrass music and working with his hands. Survivors include his companion, Ann Morris, of Barboursville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Scott Joyner, of Chester, Dawn and Danny Farthing, of Chester, and Kathey and Ben Cummings, of Hopewell; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth Dean Jr., and Kristine Melton, of Fluvanna; several brothers and sisters including, Bob Melton, of Gate City, and Louise Farrish, of Salem; six grandchildren, Christopher, Kevin, Courtney, Kenneth III, Kaylee, and Benjamin Jr.; and a special friend, Donna Drumheller. A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2009, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville by Pastor David Morris. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Buckingham County Rescue Squad, 13360 W.
