Staley Riggan Obituary

Staley Halsey (Bunny) Riggan, 70, of Galax, Va., passed away on Sunday, October 4, 2009, at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax, Va. She was born February 7, 1939, at Marion, Va., to J. Greene and Ione Spencer Halsey. She was a graduate of Radford University, Radford, Va. She taught at Bridle Creek, Roanoke City and Galax Schools. Surviving, her husband, William E. (Bill) Riggan, of the home; mother, Ione S. Halsey, of Independence, Va.; brotherin-law, Wayne Riggan, of High Point, N.C.; and sister-in-law, Shirley Hooker, of Martinsville, Va. The body is at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va. Funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 8, 2009, at Bridle Creek United Methodist Church, Independence, Va. The Rev. Jim Darnell will officiate. Interment to follow in Fox Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour preceding the funeral service and at other times at the residence at 882 Coal Creek Road, Galax, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Fox Cemetery, c/o Joyce W. Phipps, 1852 Maple Shade Road, Independence, Va. 24348. Arrangements by Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va.

We were so sorry to learn of your loss.
Just know that Mom, Becky and I send our deepest sympathy at this time. I am so glad you and Bunnie got to visit
with Becky, Ashley and I year before last. We enjoyed that so much.

Mrs. Riggan was my teacher at Galax Elementary School. She was an excellent teacher and a very special person. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
