William Albert Vest Sr.

William Albert (Poppy) Vest Sr., 79, of Buena Vista, Va., passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at his daughter's residence surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Albert was born on June 8, 1930, to the late William Levi Vest and Annie Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, "Sweetie" Alice Vest; and all his brothers and sisters. Albert was a long time member of Victory Baptist Church. He was a retired electrician from the former Burlington Industries. He served his country during the Korean War and was a member of Army National Guard for many years. Albert is survived by a daughter, Debra Tomlinson, of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, William A. Vest Jr., of Mahwah, N.J.; and a daughter, Gale Vest and her husband, Gary Beverly, of Stuarts Draft, Va. He was a proud grandfather and greatgrandfather to Amy Floyd, Sarah Rothman, Melissa Vest, Joshua Vest, Paetyn Beverly, Mathew and Jordan Floyd; and many special nieces and nephews who were always watching out for him. The family would like to extend their thanks to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah. Without the guidance and compassion of Pam, Ellie, Stacy, Sharon, and Greg this would have been a far more difficult journey. The family will receive friends at Albert's residence at any time. Family night will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2009, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Harrison's Funeral Home in Lexington, Va. Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2009, at Victory Baptist Church in Buena Vista conducted by the Reverend Dean Staton. Burial will follow at Rockbridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that contributions be made to Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah, Victory Baptist Church, or a charity of their choice.
