James Craighead Obituary

James L. Craighead, 85, of Salem, Va., passed away Saturday, October 10, 2009. Mr. Craighead was born October 8, 1924 in Riverdale, Md. to the late William M. Craighead and Xilphia Imogean Cartmell. He was also preceded in death by his brother, William M. Craighead, Jr. He retired from Lucent Technologies, now known as Alcatel-Lucent, where he worked as a telecommunications installer. Serving our country in World War II, Mr. Craighead proudly served in the United States Navy above the USS Hayward L. Edwards Naval Destroyer. Survivors include his brother, Robert A. Craighead; stepson, Fred Beuchert and wife, Diana; granddaughters, Sara Hubble and Amy Morrissey; and special friend, Jane Wood. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive. There will be no services. Jim was a special friend to me and my mom. We always enjoyed sharing our holiday traditions with him. My boys loved to visit Jim and talk with him about the wildlife around his house. He will sorely be missed.
