Mary Chapman Obituary

Mary Bryant Chapman, 98, of Wytheville, Va., died peacefully on Monday, October 12, 2009, at Carrington Place-Birdmont Center. She was born on November 16, 1910, in Foster Falls, Va., daughter of the late James E. and Sarah Martin Bryant. She was a member of the Wytheville Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her loving husband, James E. Chapman; sisters, Bessie B. Meredith, of Pulaski, Nancy B. Crigger, of Wytheville, and Maude B. Umberger, of Wytheville; brothers, Charles J. Bryant, of Roanoke, and William A. "Bill" Bryant, of Wytheville. Mary, a loving Christian woman, devoted her life to her family. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Kay C. and Hayden Horney, of Speedwell; granddaughter and husband, Heather H. and Gary "Randy" Lawrence, of Christiansburg; special great-granddaughter, McKenzie Lawrence, of Christiansburg; sister-in-law, Nancy Bryant, of Wytheville; special nieces, Lynne Perry, of Wytheville, and Mitizi B. Hedrick, of Newport News; special devoted caretakers, Mrs. Debbie Blair, Mrs. Sharon Morris, Mrs. Carolyn Robinson, Mrs. Glenda Wright, Mrs. Hester Grimes, Mrs. Linda Boksa, and Mrs. Darlene Adams; and several other nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at Wytheville Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Rusty Mullins. Entombment will follow in the West End Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from noon until service time at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Wytheville Baptist Church. Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
