I am so sorry for your loss. Mr Poff was an amazing teacher and those are few and far between. I remember back in 2000 when I first met mr. poff through a friend in his class and he would always let me hangout in his class, help him grade papers, or he helped me in my english classes. Even though I wasnt one of his students, he would always treat me like one. I would always try and come by an see him when i came back to visit PH...if I could catch him! He is one of the reasons why that I became a teacher myself. My prayers go out to your family and may god be with you.
RIP Mr Poff aka santa claus

I am so sorry to hear of Woody's passing. I have so many fond memories of him and all our adult sports days with softball and basketball. He brought a smile to everyone he came around. Also, you can tell by all his posts from students, what a popular teacher he was with the lasting impressions he made as well with the younger generation. I hope all of this will keep you in comfort knowing he was so well loved and respected. My prayers are with his family.
I regret life's busy path has not allowed me to be around him in the later years. He sure made LOTS of fond memories for me that has made me a richer person by just being a friend of his.
RIP Woody!

Cheryl and Woody's family,

I played softball with Woody for several years on the Bogarts team. We liked and respected Woody so much we asked him to serve as coach. He was always positive and made it fun to play. I remember one year we lost both our pitchers (Roger and Tom) and had to play in the state tourney. Woody had never pitched but volunteered to fill in and came close to leading us to the state title. He was a great competitor and good friend to all of us. All the condolences show he was a terrific teacher and made a difference in student's lives. I am sure I speak for all the Bogarts players in saying he will be missed.

To Cheryl and Ronnie's family:

P.J. called this evening to inform me of Ronnie's passing. In the course of the next half-hour, as the phone was passed from hand-to-hand, I spoke with several members of our old high school clique who had gathered at a popular watering hole to remember our old friend. Woody was one of our leaders, the quarterback of our no-frills, no-pads, football team. Even then he demonstrated the leadership, humor and bonhomie attested to on these pages by his former students. Though we saw each other infrequently through the years -- the last time, briefly, in June at a funeral-- he was always the same, friendly and good-natured soul that I remembered from 40 years ago. Godspeed Woody.

Mr. Poff touched so many lives. He was a teacher at Addison when I attended in the 80's. After I graduated from Roanoke College and became a teacher for RCPS, I was able to talk to him during different occasions. It was always great to see his smiling face and know the impact he was continuing to have in the lives of students. There are certain teachers who make an impact...he was definitely one of those special teachers. He will always be remembered and loved always...

Man, I can't believe your gone. It was just like Yesterday, going to my First day of High School, and going to my 2nd period class, and there you were, with Mugshot #1 up on the Board. You cared so much for all your students, and would do anything for them. I now just remanence of our conversations on just about everything, and the stories you'd tell me from Yester-year when you were my Brothers Math Teacher and Wrestling Coach. You left us too soon, and I have a feeling it'll be a long time before another Teacher like you comes along and enlightens their class, as you did with Every class, from Year to Year. RIP Mr. Poff a.k.a Santa Clause a.k.a Col. Saunders you will be forever missed. You were my Fav. Teacher ever!!!
