November 11, 2009

Dear Kristen,
Sweet, sweet child of mine!!! I miss you. I love you! I feel so alone without you, yet how I also rejoice in the fact that you are in heaven. Whole, well - not burdened by your earthly body. Oh, how I wish I had told you more how much I loved you. How I wish I could have had just one more day, yet I know God’s Plan for you is divine and not for me to question. How I see His handiwork in your life and in mine! Thank you for those eighteen wonderful years. Thank you for your love, patience, & understanding. Thank you so much for all you taught me in your time here on earth. You were such a blessing to me, to your brother and sisters and to your Papa Todd. We will forever be better people because of you!

Love Forever,

November 11, 2009

Dear Kristen,
I am missing you today. How often I took for granted your presence in my life. I can’t remember my life without you. I could always come home to you. You were always there for me. How foreign is the thought that I will go home to a house without you in it. I hope your life was content. Did you know that I always loved you even when I was busy and didn’t take the time to stop and enjoy your presence. You filled our home with love and fullness. Without you the house and my heart seem so empty. You gave me the strength to do so much in my life. Your smile soothed the rough edges away from so many days.
Your presence in our lives was so powerful. You helped your brother and sisters to learn compassion, tolerance and patience. I too learned these things from you.

Thank you!

Love,
Mom

Although I only met Kristen once when I was very young, I still remember how special I thought she was and how much I loved holding her. At her funeral, that memory came rushing back to me. I know you will always miss her and nothing I say can really make you feel any better, but I do hope that you will feel God's presence and know that she is with Him looking out for you. I am praying for all of you and I hope you will let me know if there is anything I can do.

Susan, I hope you don't mind my stopping by unannounced with comfort quilts for you and the kids. As I told the kids, in our quilt guild we think that wrapping yourself up in a quilt is like getting a hug, and can sometimes cheer you up when you are feeling down. It is only symbolic, but I'm hugging all of you in my thoughts and prayers right now. I can't imagine what you are going through, so I can't offer words of wisdom, but I can listen or hang out or whatever it is you need whenever you need me. You are a very special woman, and I'm so sorry that you and your family have suffered such a loss. See you tomorrow.

Susan,
You and your entire family are deeply in my thoughts and prayers. You are a strong woman and have done a beautiful job with being such a loving mother. Your children will grow through this experience with the help and support of yourself and Todd. Gather your strength from the Lord and when you feel like your heart is breaking all over again...offer up praise for the good in your life and the blessing of Kristen, and she was a blessing, now just think of it this way,.....the other three have a guardian angel watching over them......that's how I survived when I went through losing Robyn......a guardian angel.......another way of help[ing them through the grief.......I love you my dear dear friend.........

Dear Susan,
I am so sorry about your loss. You have been the most beautiful mother imaginable to Kristen. She was such a blessing to this world. I believe that the world is a better place because Kristen was here, and because of the way you showed the world how to honor a child with disablilities. Your other children will always be wiser and more sensitive because they loved Kristen. What a beautiful child Kristen was! With all my heart, as a follower of Jesus, I believe that Kristen is in Heaven and that she is experiencing bliss beyond what "no eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived" (i Cor. 2:9) May you and your family rest in that certainty! Much Love,

Dear Todd and Susan,
We were both deeply saddened to hear about your loss. While Kristen's life was a short one, during its time she was able to be happy, because of the comfort and constant care you two gave her. Also, we believe that she knew how much she was loved by both of you, as well as by her brother and sisters. We hope and pray that time will soon replace the sorrow you now feel with memories of happier days you spent together. Please accept our sincere condolences.

Dear Susan,
I had just enough time to attend that amazing memorial service for Kristen. Unfortunately I was unable to stay for the reception afterwards. A flood of memories went through my head as I glanced at the photos and heard the heartfelt messages from so many. You are an incredible mother. Dear Susan, Todd and Family,
My first day back in Lexington - to watch my new granddaughter (Don and Stacie Wheeler's baby) I also heard that Kristen had gone on to be with the Lord at 18 years - she was the same age as our daughter Jacqueline, when she passed on. Just want you to know how heartfelt our sympathies truly are. We will keep you in our prayers. I know the whole community is grieving for your loss. I prefer to see her wonderful smiling face as she runs down the streets of gold.
