Elsie Sutphin Obituary

Elsie Dobbins Sutphin, 83, of Pilot, Va., passed away at her home on Wednesday, October 14, 2009. She was born on May 4, 1926, to Latha and Annie Roop Dobbins of Riner, Va. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Alfred Dobbins. Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Ward Sutphin; a son, Barry Sutphin and his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Regina Young and her husband, Allen; grandchildren, Clark and Vanessa Young, Gail and Brennan Duffy and Stephanie and Brad Morris; and four great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Blake, Tirzah and Conor. Elsie enjoyed cooking, gardening, tending her flowers and visiting with family and friends. The family wishes to thank Carilion Clinic Hospice of Radford, Va., for their loving care. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2009, at the Horne Funeral Home in Christiansburg, Va. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009, by the Rev. Don Shelor and the Rev. Bill Norris at the Horne Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at the Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to either the Christiansburg Rescue Squad, Riner Station, P.O. Box 176, Christiansburg, Va. 24068 or to Pilot United Methodist Church, c/o David Hylton, Treasurer, 550 Hemlock St., Christiansburg, Va. 24073.
