Richard Ackley Obituary

Richard Thurlow Ackley, of Roanoke, Va., born on April 9, 1913, died on Friday, October 16, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Bonnie Ackley; son, Roger Ackley and his wife, Patricia, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; and son, Dana Ackley and his wife, Peg, of Roanoke. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Annette Walters and her husband, John, of Colleyville, Texas, Michelle Kellogg and her husband, Michael, of Chanhassen, Minn., Brian Ackley and his wife, Donna, of Lawrence, Kan., Amanda Ackley, of Abingdon, Va., and Pete Ackley, of Chicago, Ill. He is also survived by four greatgrandchildren, Alexander Walters, of Colleyville, Texas, Katelyn Kellogg, of Chanhassen, Minn., and Eva and Owen Ackley, of Lawrence, Kan. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the United Way of the Roanoke Valley.

I never had the chance to meet Mr. Ackley, but I hear he was a lover of poetry, a singer who loved the grand old songs and fine father and grandfather. Rest in Peace Mr. Ackley.
