Berta J. Thompson

Berta J. Thompson, 72, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2009, at her residence. She was born on March 3, 1937, to Mrs. Louise M. Carson and the late Robert Carson. She was preceded in death by her sister; brother; and grandson. In addition to her mother, she is survived by five daughters, Margaret Goode, Juanita Thompson, Gail Thompson, Ellen (Raymond) James, and Gloria Thompson; two sons, Samuel Thompson Jr. and Ronnie Thompson; father of her children, Samuel Thompson Sr.; four sisters, Helen Harvey, Ruby, Mary and Maxine Carson, all of Bedford; one brother, Griffin L. (Patrial) Carson, of Panama City, Fla.; one sister-in-law, Nancy Carson; two aunts; and a host of grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at Hill Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny R. Stone officiating.
