Joan Carol Newman Harpine

Joan Carol Newman Harpine, 60, of Bedford, Va., died on Sunday, October 18, 2009, at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was born in Danville, Va., on September 11, 1949. Joan worked in home health care, loved reading and going on trips to numerous beaches. Joan was preceded in death by her father, Raphael Newman. Joan is survived by her mother, Lois Williams; her loving husband, Fred W. Harpine; two brothers, Gary Newman and his wife, Mary, of Chillicothe, Ohio, and Ed Newman and friend, Marilyn, of Roanoke; one sister, Melanie Silverman, of Lancaster, Pa.; six nieces and nephews, Michael Newman, Liz Newman, Joshua Silverman, Amalia Silverman, Eliana Silverman and Josiah Silverman; also numerous loving family and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Blue Ridge Chapter, One Morton Drive, Suite 106, Charlottesville, Va. 22903 or Epworth United Methodist Church, 4144 West Lynchburg-Salem Turnpike, Thaxton, Va. 24174.
