Donald Parrish Obituary

Donald (Red) Parrish, of Roanoke, Va., passed away on Monday, October 19, 2009. He was retired from General Electric and was a proud United States Marine Corp Veteran. He was a member of St. Phillip Lutheran Church. "Red" was an ardent golfer, his license plate reading "10th Hole," commemorating his hole in one at Hanging Rock Golf Course. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Coon Parrish; his mother-inlaw, Lucy B. Coon; his mother, Hazel Artrip; and his father, John Parrish. He is survived by his brother, Wayne Parrish; sisters, Tonya and husband, Todd Lampersberger, and family, and Dawn and husband, Fred Karnes, and family; sons, Thomas Clayton Davis and wife, Melany, and James Sherman Davis and wife, Janet; two special grandchildren, Alexandra Davis Taylor and husband, Brian, and PFC Geoffery Davis, USMC.; a sister-in-law, Nancy Vaughn; and "Red's" special friend, Susan Lowe. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2009, at St. Phillip Lutheran Church. Pastor David Derrick will officiate. The family will receive friends after the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11537, Alexandria, Va. 22312. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel and Crematory, 540-989-3131 .

I am sending my sincere condolences to the Parrish family. I worked with Red at GE, he always had a kind word, loved his golfing buddies.
I lost my husband Douglas R. Crowder in December 2008 to lung cancer.

Don was an important part of the Class of 1959, and will be sorely missed. He was always involved with anything to do with our class, and kept us informed of any news and events. I send my sympathy and prayers to his family.
