Howard Davis

Howard Davis, 86, of Bedford, Va., passed away Friday, October 23, 2009, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on Monday, August 13, 1923, in Bedford Co., Va., a son of the late John William Davis and Dollie Anne Hensley Davis. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Willie, Warren and James Davis; and a sister, Pearl Davis. He was a maintenance worker at Eagle Eyrie having retired with 20 years service and was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church and the VFW. He was also a decorated veteran of World War II having served in the United States Army. Surviving is his wife, Sarah Nicholas Cheatham Davis; three daughters, Brenda Hardy and husband, Sam, of Bedford, Carolyn Markham, of Big Island, Barbara Owsley and husband, Bill, of Big Island; two sons, Joe Davis and wife, Josephine, of Bedford, Tony W. Davis, of Bedford; two sisters, Mary Gardner and Fannie Gardner; five brothers, Russell Davis and wife, Betty, Andrew Davis and wife, Ella, Clarence Davis, Bob Davis and Sherman Davis and wife, Ruth; three sistersin-law, Mary Davis and Velma Davis Gladys Cheatham; a brother-in-law, Robert Cheatham and wife, Sally; nine grandchildren, Ivy Nguyen and husband, Phung, Kelly Kittle and husband, Joshua, Chris Markham and wife, Amy, Scott Markham, Jennifer Alderman and husband, Craig, Gary Davis, Jeremy Davis and wife, Candace, Sarah Owsley, Will Owsley; nine greatgrandchildren, Aiden, Elliott, Aliza, Isaiah, Ryan, Amber, Katie, Cameron and Brennan. The family requests those wishing to make memorials to consider Sedalia Baptist Church Building Fund, 1072 Charlemont Road, Big Island, Va. 24526. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 26, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Sedalia Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Jones and the Rev. Sam Jones officiating. Interment with Military Honors by American Legion Post # 16 will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
