Frances Garrett Obituary

Frances Rosebro Garrett, 89, Bowlers Wharf, Va., passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, October 26, 2009. She is survived by her devoted husband of 63 years, William C. Garrett; two daughters, Neely Garrett Axselle and her husband, Ron, and Frances Garrett Jones and her husband, Frank, all of Richmond; one son, William C. Garrett Jr. and his wife, Connie, of Martinsville; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Axselle Rader and her husband, Matt, and Susannah Waring Jones, all of Richmond; three greatgrandsons, Wit, Thomas, and Ben Rader; one sister, Mary Neely Huddle, of Richmond; two brothers, Henry R. Rosebro Jr., of Richmond, and W. Gooch Rosebro and his wife, Sandra, of Roanoke; and many nieces and nephews. Frances was a graduate of Jefferson High School in Roanoke and Longwood College. She taught and coached drama at St. Margaret's School in Tappahannock. Frances, a descendent of a long line of Presbyterian pastors, was a founding member of the Tappahannock Presbyterian Chapel. She tirelessly served as co-chair for the building fund of the Essex County Public Library. She was also an integral part of the Garrett Brothers Farm operations for many years. She was a devoted and unselfish wife, mother, and friend to many. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at the Marks-Bristow Funeral Home in Tappahannock. A graveside service for her family and friends will be held 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Ephesus Baptist Church, Dunnsville, Va. In the event of inclement weather, the service will be conducted in the church sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Tappahannock Presbyterian Chapel, P.O. Box 983, or Essex County Public Library, 117 North Church Lane, both in Tappahannock, Va. 22560. She will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Be Still

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day
Be still like desert shrub.

Be calm and you will hear your loved one speak, in the stillness, in the calm, their love resounds.

If you are still this promise I make, you will hear the voice of your loved one helping you along your way.
