Edward George Magruder

Edward George Magruder, 82, of Salem, Va., passed away on Monday, October 26, 2009. He was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a lifetime member of the DAV. He worked in banking for many years and then later served Virginia Western Community College as a professor of business. He was also a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Salem. Preceding him in death was his son, Major Michael Magruder. His surviving family includes his wife of 63 years, Esther Magruder; children, Kathy Marencik and husband, Rick, and Bobby Morgan and wife, Becky; grandson, Travis Morgan and wife, Christine; and sisters-in-law, Xia Yates, Ruth Wigington, and Wray Scruggs. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 28, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Fair View Cemetery in Roanoke. The Very Reverent R. Bradley Laycock will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Edward's name to St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 42 East Main Street in Salem, Virginia 24153.
