Thomas Field Obituary

Thomas Sperry Field, died on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, at his home in Bedford County, Va. He was born on Thursday, April 21, 1927 in Bedford County, a son of the late Moorman Field and Edna Malvern Sperry Field. He lived his entire life in Bedford where he was known as "The Pony Man." His entire life involved raising and breeding horses, Miniature horses, Angus Cattle, and brush and miniature goats. He was also a long-haul truck driver for Rubatex for 24 years. He was a lifelong member of Bedford Presbyterian Church and was also a veteran of the United States Navy having served in World War II. Surviving is his wife, Jacqueline Coleman Field and their children, Steven Craig and Cynthia Hall Field, Jeffrey Garnett and Jean Shelor Field, Melanie Rebecca Field, Thomas Sperry Field II (deceased), Thomas Stuart and Cynthia Van Burkleo Field, Allison Sperry and Marty L. Crow, Kathleen Anne and Richard K. Michael; their grandchildren, Brian W. and Rebekah C. Hodges; Melisa N. Sublett and Cameron H. Field, Matthew C. Field and Joshua N. Field, Glenn T. Field, Daniel S. Field, and Carly E. Field, Madison S. Crow, Molly A. Crow, McKenzie I. Crow, and Eli E. Crow, Nathan T. Michael, Travis K. Michael, Austin J. Michael; his father-in-law, Garnett E. (Jack) Coleman; a special cousin, Carole Field Lacy; a special niece, Lisa Stull Persinger; a special greatniece, Sperry R. Grills and his lifetime friend, Annie Johnson Lynton. Our family will always remember the care given by Dr. John L. MacNeill and his staff at Lynchburg Hematology Oncology, Lynchburg, Va., Dr. Robert H. Seamon and the staff at Roanoke Valley Medical Clinic, Roanoke, Va. and Dr. William L. Welch and the staff at Carilion Clinic Cardiology and Lindsey N. Poff, LPN at the Coumadin Clinic. To support Tom's love of family history, the family requests that donations be made to the Bedford Genealogical Society, P. O. Box 1439, Bedford, Va. 24523. Funeral services will be held at the graveside at Greenwood Cemetery on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. Carl H. Douglass Jr. officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 until 7 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Bedford.
