Roy Stanley Obituary

Roy Anderson Stanley, 91, of 6975 Callaway Road, Rocky Mount, Va., died on Wednesday, October 28, 2009. Mr. Stanley was born at Hunters Hall (post office) in Franklin County near Callaway April 19, 1918, a son of the late George T. Stanley and Louetta Willis Stanley. He was also preceded in death by five sisters; four brothers; son-in-law, Johnny L. Hodges; and grandson, Michael Dean Guilliams. Mr. Stanley was a life long member of Highland United Methodist Church in Callaway where he served in many capacities including Sunday School teacher, treasurer, and lay leader. Roy was a member of The Gideons International. He also farmed, sold farm machinery, and was an excavating contractor for 27 years before retiring in 1982. Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Anna L. Stanley; daughters, Linda S. Exstrom, and Penny Guilliams and husband, Johnny Lane; son, Joel W. Stanley and wife, Connie Hamblin Stanley; grandchildren, S. Lane Guilliams and husband, Michael Shaver, Nina Ferris and husband, Chris, and Trevor Stanley; two greatgrandchildren, Justin and Travis Earls; and one brother, Jim Stanley. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Friday, October 30, 2009, from Highland United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jason Bryant and Mrs. Anne Snead officiating. Interment will follow in the Antioch Church of the Brethren Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Gideons International Franklin County Camp, P.O. Box 915, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151 or to Highland United Methodist Church, 8535 Callaway Road, Callaway, Va. 24067. His family will be receiving friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 29, 2009, at Highland United Methodist Church, Callaway. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount, Va., 540-483-3835.
