John M. Hobson Jr.

John M. (Poochie) Hobson Jr., 65, of Montvale, Va., passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009, at the Friendship Retirement Community after a lengthy illness spent mostly at the VA Medical Center, Salem, Va. John was born in Bedford, Va., to the late John M. Sr. and Sarah Frances Hobson. He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Betty Ann (George) Tucker, of Baltimore, Md., and Phyllis (John) Burwell, of Newark, N.J.; three aunts, Blanche (Marshall) Spinner, of Bedford, Va., Elsie Reeves, of Thaxton, Va., and Elizabeth Clapp, of Norfolk, Va.; four uncles, Melvin Hobson, of Philadelphia, Pa., Dallas Hobson, Claude (Carolyn) Hobson and Russell (Kathleen) Hobson, all of Montvale, Va.; two nephews; nine nieces including a devoted niece, Shanta (Minister Bernard) Hash, of Roanoke, Va.; and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, November 6, 2009, in the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel with the Rev. Charles Twine Jr. officiating. The interment will be in the Hobson Family Cemetery, Irving, Va. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service.
