Virginia Kelley Obituary

Virginia English Kelley, 95, of Rocky Mount, Va., passed away on Friday, November 6, 2009. She was born on February 11, 1914, in Glade Hill, a daughter of the late William Letcher and Ella Amos English. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Perry W. English, William "Leroy" English and Jacob T. English; a sister, Irene E. Jackson; and a baby sister at the age of two months, Blanche Lucille English. Her husband of 63 years, Norton Rufus Kelly, died in 1999; and her son-in-law, George W. Stiff, died in 2006. Surviving are one son, William A. (Bill) Kelly and wife, Kathy, Ocean Isle Beach, N.C.; one daughter, Phyllis Kelly Stiff and fiance, David A. Jeter, of Vinton; four grandchildren, Michael A. Kelly and wife, Barbara, of Cornado, Calif., Shannon B. Kelly-Gluckman and husband, Lee, of Redondo Beach, Calif., Bonnie Kelly Menefee and husband, John, Brightwood, George A. (Andy) Harrison and fiancee, Beth Oglesby, of Richmond; two greatgrandchildren, Joshua Michael Kelly, of Cornado, Calif., and Aiden Charles Wesley Menefee, of Brightwood; one brother, Guy C. English and wife, Blandine, of Rocky Mount; and two sisters-in-law, Frances W. (Polly) English and Hettie Kelly Hodges, both of Rocky Mount. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Kelley retired from the Franklin County School system after 40 plus years of teaching and became active in several community clubs and activities. She was a member of Old Chapel Primitive Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2009, from Lynch ConnerBowman Funeral Chapel with Elder Clarence Stone officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to the Virginia E. Kelley Retired Teachers Scholarship Fund, c/o Mrs. Betty Huffman, 175 Mountain Avenue, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151 or to the rescue squad of your choice. The family respectfully requests that no food be brought to the home. The family will receive friends on Sunday, November 8, 2009, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Lynch Conner-Bowman Funeral Home, 140 Floyd Avenue, Rocky Mount, Va., www. lynchconnerbowman.com.

Sorry to hear of Mrs Kelly's passing. I knew Her from coming to Chapel Church when We would have our Potter Reunion every June. She was a Real Nice Lady and I am sure that She will be missed by Her Loveones.

Phyllis and Bill,
I will always have the wonderful memories of time spent with Virgina, especially ALL the Christmas Eves. It wont be the same; however, we know life goes on.
