James Maughan Obituary

James Maughan, 85, of Roanoke, Va., left suddenly and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 8, 2009. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josephine Maughan; parents, John and Vera Maughan; daughter, Louise Hath; son-in-law, David Arnold; and brother, Ed Maughan. Jim had served in the United States. Navy during World War II on a repair ship. He retired after 37 years with Norfolk and Western and was a deacon at Melrose Baptist Church. He and Beulah had enjoyed traveling and taken many wonderful trips together. Surviving are his wife, Beulah Maughan; daughter, Brenda Arnold, of Christiansburg; stepdaughter, Carol Cecil, of Troutville; grandchildren, Jason Cecil and wife, Amity, Justin Cecil and wife, Doreen, and Josh Cecil and wife, Carla; great-granddaughters, Alexis Cecil and Amelia Cecil; brothers, George Maughan and wife, Dot, and Herbert Maughan; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel with the Rev. Larry Sprouse officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. Flowers will be appreciated or donations may be made to Melrose Baptist Church, the American Cancer Society or a Veterans organization. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, 2009, at Oakey's North Chapel, 540-362-1237.
