Anna Roberts Obituary

Anna Boon Roberts, 86, of Roanoke, Va., died peacefully in her sleep on Monday, November 9, 2009, after a brief illness. Her children were at her side until she was finally reunited with her beloved Hunter, who predeceased her after 59 years of marriage. Anna leaves behind her devoted daughter, Sarah; and sons, Hunter and wife, Joyce, Kent and wife, Kathy, and Mark and wife, Brenda. Also surviving are granddaughter, Whitney Roberts Pratt; grandsons, Adam, Andrew, and Cameron Roberts; and greatgrandchildren, Ian and Tatum Pratt. Throughout her life Anna took care of people; her mother, her family, and her friends. She always put other's needs before her own. People loved to be around her because of her sweet smile, the twinkle in her eyes, and her perpetual good nature. In her younger years Anna enjoyed travel, outdoor activities (even cutting the grass), and the occasional "Big Orange." She had a killer ping-pong backhand and was a champion duckpin bowler. Granny, as she came to be known in her later years, never met a stranger and was loved by all who knew her. A celebration of Anna's life will be held 2 p.m. on Sunday, November 15, 2009, at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church led by the Rev. Dr. Tom Stocks and the Rev. T. Bradley Smith Jr. Her family will receive friends in the church social hall following the service. Burial will be private and will be conducted by Pastor David Skole of Christ Lutheran Church. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.

Dear Cousins,
I, too, have such wonderful memories of being at your home and sharing a meal--a delicious one--that Aunt Anna had cooked and your Dad, Uncle Hunter, did the entertaining. Always, loads of fun! I will certainly miss your Mom. I can just picture all the Roberts' siblings and spouses up in heaven having a grand reunion. They have been waiting for Anna to join them and now they are back together again-Hazel and Jack, Helen and Ed, my Mom and Dad and your parents.
Please know that my prayers and my thoughts will be with you. So sorry that I was unable to attend the services.
I would love to try to plan another "cousin" reunion and share the fun stories with all of you.
My love,
Carla Walton Cornelius

Dear Cousins,

I have fond memories of Aunt Anna and times we spent together with our families in Roanoke. What a wonderful childhood we all had. Your house was definitely on the favorite list and a sure bet for lots of laughs and fun. Going to your house always meant some good cooking from Aunt Anna as well! I want you all to know that I am thinking about you during this time and share with you in the loss of your mother and my wonderful Aunt Anna. Regrets that I was unable to attend her funeral. Love to you all and hoping that we will one day plan another Roberts family reunion.

Love,

Dear Sarah,
I am so very sorry for the loss of 'Granny'. She was truly the apple of my eye on Memory Care. We shared a lot of good laughs together. She could brighten up any room when she walked in with her BIG smile. 'Granny' will never be forgotten. You were the daughter every Mom wishes for! As you go through this difficult time, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Dear Roberts Family,

We are so saddened to hear of Anna's death. When we moved to Roanoke in 1963, it was the first time away from home for all of us,and we didn't know a soul in town, but God was so good to place us right next door to the Roberts!
They took us in and made us a part of their own big happy family. Anna was ALWAYS there. She had a personality that was loving and also full of mischief, and if needed she would give you the shirt off her back
She was always laughing.and enjoyed life. We have so many wonderful memories of those days.
One thing is for sure. You all should have no regrets. You treated your Mama just like the the Queen she was.

love to you all
Bob and Bev

Sarah,

Sorry to hear about Granny. She has been greatly missed on Memory Care this past week while she was in the hospital & will always be missed. (You to will be missed)No matter how bad or in pain she was in, she always had a smile and made us laugh. The place is not the same without her. It has been a pleasure to take care of her the last 7 1/2 years. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

It was always a pleasure visiting with your mother. Her smile could light up a room and she was always so glad to greet you. I would leave after time with Anna and be filled with peace and joy at having spent time with such a sweet and caring woman of God. May the love that sustained her and your dear father Hunter be present today through the love of our Heavenly Father that never ends.
