William Stamper Obituary

William Ralph Stamper, 86, of Elk Creek, Va., passed away November 13, 2009, at his residence. He was born October 19, 1923, at Elk Creek, Va., to the late Peyton Stamper and Dollie Cornett Stamper and was also predeceased by his wife, Carol Cornett Stamper. He was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church. A World War 11 United States Army Veteran. A life member of Grayson County VFW Post 7726. He worked for the Postal Service for 35 years, most of that time as Postmaster before retiring. Survivors include his son, Douglas E. Stampler of Cornelius, N.C.; three brothers and spouses, Leo and Sylvia Stamper of Sparta N.C., Leston and Freida Stamper of Raleigh, N.C., and Wayne and Garry Stamper of Redding, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews also survive. The body is at ReinsSturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va. Graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, November 16, 2009, at the Lebanon Cemetery, Elk Creek, Va. The Rev. Bill Shupe will officiate. Military Rites will be conducted by Grayson County VFW Post 7726. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday night from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Elk Creek Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 130, Elk Creek, Va. 24326 or Elk Creek Vol. Fire Dept., P.O. Box 36, Elk Creek, Va. 24326. ReinsSturdivant Funeral Home, Independence, Va. is serving the Stamper family.
