Kenneth Thompson Obituary

Kenneth Gray Thompson, 75, of Riner, Va., beloved son, husband, daddy, pawpaw and brother, was peacefully called back home on Monday, November 16, 2009, with his family by his side. He was preceded in death by his father, Gold Thompson; and a brother, Johnny Thompson. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Faye Thompson; son, Monty Thompson and wife, Lou Ann, of Christiansburg, Va.; a daughter, Tami Koury and husband, Ernie Jr., of Burlington, N.C.; sons, Tony Hylton, of Radford, Va., and Greg Hylton, of Christiansburg, Va.; grandchildren, Ellie Thompson, Ern, Elizabeth, and Lauren Koury; his mother, Irene Thompson, whom he had a special and wonderful relationship; sisters, Corrine Vaughn, Betty Linkous and husband, C.B., Winki Akers and husband, Bud, and Mary Jones; his mother-in-law, Eavie Phillips; and numerous nieces and nephews. Words can not express the love and how much we do miss him, and believe that he isn't just in our past but in our future too. He was owner of Holiday Datsun, now New River Nissan. He sold the business in 1988 to enjoy his true passion of raising cattle on his grandparent's farm. He was a devoted member of Valley View Church and cherished his church family. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 19, 2009, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the Horne Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009, at the Valley View Church, Riner, conducted by Elder Raymond Goad and Elder Larry Hollandsworth with interment in the Thompson Cemetery, Floyd County. The family wishes to thank the staff of Montgomery Regional Hospital ICU for the special care and kindness given to the Thompson family. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Valley View Church, c/o Linda Quesenberry, 2915 Riner Road, Christiansburg, Va. 24073 or the National Kidney Foundation of Virginia, 5001 West Broad Street, #217, Richmond, Va. 23230. I would like to share a memory or two of Kenneth. I adored Kenneth as a little girl and my mother Patsy did as well. I thought he was the most handsome and funny man. I am pretty sure he let me use some fingernail polish- what patience! We were out on a boat at Claytor Lake and I did not listen to him on how to throw skiis out properly, and scratched his leather, but he did not yell at me. I used to love to watch him drive the blue truck to take us down to the river to go tubing, because I thought if he could drive that good with a different kind of arm, then I could drive too when I got big with a different kind of leg.
I will miss Kenneth, even though I did not get so see him often as I grew up and away. I always looked forward to seeing him here and there and thought of him and Faye often, as my mother dearly loved her too.
I am sorry for your loss and my love, thoughts and prayers go out to the family.
