Almeda Bohon Obituary
Almeda Poff Bohon, of Roanoke, Va., went to her Heavenly Home on Tuesday, November 17, 2009. She was born on January 27, 1909, on Bent Mountain and lived there for 95 years before moving in Elm Park Estates and Loyalton Assisted Living in Roanoke. She was the oldest living member of Copper Hill Church of the Brethren. She was one of 11 children born to Samuel and Burchie Poff. She married Clyde Bohon in 1939 and together they managed a successful store and fuel oil business. Although they had no children, they had many special nieces and nephews. At her 100th birthday celebration in January, all agreed that Almeda was the glue that held the family together. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband; two sisters; seven brothers; and several much loved nieces and nephews. Surviving to cherish her memory are a sister, Perdine Manning, of Bent Mountain; and sisters-in-law, Lela Poff, of Salem, Va., and Marie Roberts, of Salem, Va.; along with numerous dear nephews and nieces. Faithful caretakers include nephew, Basil Graham (Evelyn); her long-time friend and "sister," Ruby Stone; and "granddaughter," Dana DeWitt. Almeda will long be remembered by her family, friends and neighbors for her work ethic and sharp mind. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, November 20, 2009, at Oakey's South Chapel with Pastor Paris Bain and Pastor Maurice Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 19, 2009, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's South Chapel.
