Lillian Jones Obituary

Mrs. Lillian K. Jones, retired Major in the Army Nurse Corps, died on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, in Salem, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, retired Lt. Colonel Lincoln S. Jones. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Mary E. Cross and husband, Mr. Allen R. Cross; and her daughter-inlaw, Mrs. Fay Jones. Lillian leaves behind a wonderful family of 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great-greatgrandchildren. Mrs. Jones resided at Richfield Care Center for the last seven years. She was born on April 1, 1914, in Alabama. She attended Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York. During World War II she served at hospitals in Southhampton, England and Le Havre, France. After the war, she received her BS in Nursing and her Masters degree from the University of North Carolina. She worked for the Veterans Administration in Washington, D.C., and retired in the 1960s. She and her husband moved to Madeira Beach, Fla., in 1972. A graveside service and interment with Full Military Honors will be held 1 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Arlington National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Salem Rescue Squad or the Salem Kiwanis Club. John M. Oakey and Son, Salem, Va., is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Ellen,
Please accept our sympathy & condolences. Aunt Lillian is the last of the siblings. I know my Dad ( Vincent) always had a sweet spot for his sister , Lillian. God Bless you all.
