Dear Mrs. Keith and Family,
It was such a priviledge to have been a student of both Mr. Keith and you. It was always clear that you were both there for the purpose to inspire us to learn and help us truly understand our lessons. Numbers are less pliable than words, so math was more difficult for me than English, but Mr. Keith always understood that I was working very hard to do well in his advanced math classes. He took the time to go through every problem on our tests to give us as much credit as possible on problems up to the point where the mistake was made. Many teachers would only consider the final answer. He worked out the solution with us if anyone missed a problem to help us get it right the next time.
I was scared of Mr. Keith before he was my teacher, but it didn't take long to learn that it was respect and the fear of letting him down that made his classroom a place where no one misbehaved.
I was overjoyed to read in the Floyd Press of his confidence that he had made everything right with the Lord. When I heard of his passing, I thought of one of his favorite sayings, "Close only counts in horse shoes and hand grenades." I couldn't help but hope that he had made a ringer! Thank you for having the boldness to share that statement of faith with the public. As much as "his children" of Floyd County loved and respected him, knowing where he stood with God could very well inspire someone else to make this most essential committment.

Janet,

We often recall the wonderful memories we have of you and DJ opening your hearts and home to us and of the wonderful time we had showing DJ and Kevin some of our beautiful state. Dear Janet and Family,
I had so meant to try to visit you since moving back to Floyd, and I just haven't gotten there yet. I loved DJ, he was an amazing and inspiring man and very few days pass that I don't think of him or you in some way. Usually one of his DJisms will pop in my head for some reason. I had wanted to attend the viewing, but work kept me away. My love to you and all of your family.

May there be peace in knowing that DJ left strength and integrity in abundance, not only in his family, but the hundreds of students he taught and mentored. He is likely working with

Janet and Family,
I have the fondest memories of DJ as he taught across the hall from me while I was at FCHS. He was well-respected and was a man of integrity. He held his students to that same standard and they are thankful for it. The Lord will remain by your side and may He bring comfort and rest to you.

I send my condolences and best wishes to you. DJ was the best teacher that I ever had. I also remember the very cold classroom! - and how excited he was to teach. My best memory of DJ is him teaching me how to drive. What a great time that was. My thoughts are with you and your entire family.

DJ Keith, a superb teacher, a great friend, a true mentor, a man whom I hold in the highest regard and respect as much as one can be respected. He has influenced so very many. The positive impact he has had on this earth is of the magnitude that few men achieve in a lifetime. He will be missed. My heart and prayers are extended to his friends and family members.

So sorry to hear of your loss. I so much enjoyed working with D. J. in the A. P. program at FCHS before he retired. I will always remember you and I laughing about your need to get home from the graduation (and your retirement) ceremony to help D. J. in the hayfield. God bless!

I was so saddened to hear of the passing of such a great man. He was a truly inspiring teacher. I will miss seeing him in the field or on his tractor, when I pass by on my way home. My prayer is that God would comfort Janet, his children, family and friends.

DJ Keith was a phenomenal teacher, mentor and friend. I can still remember him telling us as he circled "314" on the door with chalk, how he was preparing us for life; well, he certainly did that. He changed my life and will truly be missed. My prayers go out to his wife and family during this sorrowful time.

Janet and family we were so shocked at the news of DJ passing the morning of Nov. 25. I just had got off the phone Tuesday night telling everyone how great things had gone.
