Mildred Martin Obituary

Mildred Williams Martin, 102, of Roanoke, Va., died on Sunday, November 22, 2009. She was the widow of S. Sanford Martin and a native of Richmond, Va. Mrs. Martin had resided in Roanoke since 1976. She was a member of Pine Street Baptist Church in Richmond and First Baptist Church in Roanoke. Mildred spent her entire career working at the Department of Recreation and Parks for the City of Richmond. She was a promoter and instructor of the city wide folk and square dance program for children and adults, and coordinator of the Senior Citizens Program for the Central Activities Division. She is survived by her nephew, Philip Snider Jr., of Houston, Texas; her niece, Peggy Hall, of Birmingham, Ala.; and several cousins. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, in Evergreen Burial Park. The Rev. John Cochran will officiate. Friends may call at Oakey's South Chapel on Brambleton Ave. from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 1, 2009. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel, 540-989-3131.
