Lelia Walters Obituary

Lelia Kathleen Whalen Walters, 84, of Wytheville, Va., passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Patrick and Lelia Arnold Whalen. She was a member of the All Nations Church of God and was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Rhudell Walters; five sisters, Marie Cox, Gaye Rash, Mae Lynch, Louise Shelton, and Helen Lough; and five brothers, Charles Whalen, Wade Whalen, Andy Whalen, Rex Whalen, and Roger Whalen. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca L. and Terry A. Dean, of Wytheville; son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Marsha M. Walters, of Wytheville; sisters and brother-in-law, Gladys Page, of Maryland, Mary Shrader, of North Carolina, and Eula and James Fielder, of Rural Retreat; brothers and sisterin-law, Richard Whalen, of Maryland, John and Joanne Whalen, of Speedwell, and J.R. Whalen, of Speedwell; four grandchildren and spouses, Mark and Andrea Brooks, Christine and Rickey Melton, Nadine and Kenny Bryant, and Lelia Gayle Walters; and six great-grandchildren, Travis Melton, Cody Melton, Joseph Melton, Amber Brooks, Miranda Brooks, and Lelia Marie. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2009, in the Grubb Funeral Home Chapel conducted by the Rev. Richard Collins and Pastor Rick Patton with the interment in the Evergreen United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Grubb Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 9, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. or at the home of David Walters at anytime. Grubb Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
