Burnett Caldwell Obituary

Burnette Caldwell Jr., 83, of Roanoke, Va., died on Monday, December 7, 2009. Burnette was born on January 26, 1926, the son of the late Burnette and Jessie Lumsden Caldwell. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Alice (Peg) Prillaman Caldwell. Burnette will be remembered for his devoted, loving care of "Peg" who was an invalid for many years. He was also preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Ruby Prillaman Powell and Bessie Prillaman Wigington; and brother-inlaw, Henry N. Prillaman. Surviving are his brother and sister-in-law, Richard C. and Sheila A. Caldwell, of Jackson, Tenn.; and nephews and nieces, Richard C. Caldwell Jr., Lisa Caldwell, Alan Prillaman, Beth Prillaman Witt, Mary Powell Roberts, Peggy Powell Daniel, William N. Powell, Paul A. Powell Jr., John D. Powell and Jim Wigington. Burnette was a graduate of William Fleming High School and Roanoke College. He proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy. During those years, he acquired his love for travel. He retired from General Electric Company after many years of devoted service in corporate procurement. His retirement allow him to fulfill dreams of traveling and meeting relatives in Scotland. Burnette was an active member of the Salem Presbyterian Church and so appreciated the prayers, fellowship and out reach of the church. Special thanks to Charlotte Snapp and Juanita Green who provided care for Burnette. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, December 14, 2009, at Salem Presbyterian Church with the Rev. William E.W. Robinson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Salem Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 536, 41 E. Main St., Salem, Va. 24153.
