Earl Dickerson Obituary

Earl Dwight Dickerson, 70, of Blacksburg, Va., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 19, 2009. He was born in Floyd County on March 17, 1939, to his beloved parents, the late Holice McKinley and India Belle Lester Dickerson. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Edward McKinley Dickerson and A.D. Dickerson. He retired from the Radford Arsenal as a supervisor, was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed gardening. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Lynda Joyce Hendricks Dickerson; daughter, Donna Kaye Carroll and husband, Jeff, of Radford, Va.; son, Earl Jerome Dickerson, of Radford, Va.; stepson, Mel Hendricks, of Palm Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren; three greatgrandchildren; two step grandchildren; sisters, Thelma Haley, of Christiansburg, Va., Emma Reed and husband, Lee, Jr., of Christiansburg, Va., Bobbie Johnston, of Blacksburg, Va., Janice Doss and husband, Maynard, of Christiansburg, Va., and Judy Dickerson, of Christiansburg, Va.; and his best friend, "Houn Dawg." Earl requested that there be no flowers and that memorial contributions be made to the Montgomery County Humane Society. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, from the chapel of Horne Funeral Home with Pastor David Hurd officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers will be Mel Hendricks, Joey Carroll, Jeff Carroll, Todd Johnston, Lonnie Linkous, and Chuck Cambell.
