Alexander Semenkovich Obituary

Alexander Stephen Semenkovich, 86, of Roanoke, Va., and formerly of Salem, Va., died on Wednesday, December 30, 2009. He was born on November 16, 1923, in New Haven, Conn., to Stephen and Mary Butchka Semenkovich. He was predeceased by his parents; and two brothers, Paul and Joseph. He served in the United States Air Force for three years during World War II. He graduated from Arnold College in New Haven, Conn., with a Bachelor of Science degree and New York University with a Master of Arts degree. He retired from the Salem Veteran's Hospital after 34 years of service where he held the position of Chief Corrective Therapy. He was formerly a player for the Boston Red Sox chain for five years. Following retirement he volunteered for the Lewis Gale Medical Library for 15 years. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Farmer Semenkovich, of Roanoke; son, Dr. Clay Farmer Semenkovich and wife, Dr. Janice W. Semenkovich, of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Alison Eva Walden and husband, Daniel, of Charlottesville, Va.; two grandchildren, Nicholas Paul and Katherine Ann Semenkovich, of St. Louis, Mo. There will be no visitation or funeral service. The Semenkovich family is being served by John M. Oakey and Son, Salem, Va., 540-389-5441.

Clay, I was sorry to read about the passing of your dad, having gone through this with my own dad several years ago. I am also sorry we have been out of touch for so many years. Hope to make contact with you again. Fred Fink was asking about you as well. All the best to you, Janice, your mom, sister, and your children.
