William Victorine Obituary

William Bert Victorine, born April 1, 1923, passed away at Richfield Recovery Center on January 2, 2010. He was a well-known piano technician in the Roanoke Valley for over 60 years. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Evelyn Whorley Victorine, of Salem; daughter, Billie Kerfoot and her husband, Charlie, of Vinton; daughter, Bonnie Orr and her husband, Hal, of Salem; one granddaughter, Dr. Erin Kerfoot, of Hillsborough, N.C.; brother, Robert Victorine; brother, Harry Victorine and his wife, Carolyn; and five nephews. Bill grew up in the Roanoke Valley and attended Jefferson High School. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and fought in France and Belgium. Upon his return, he met Evelyn Whorley and they were married October 15, 1948. He was the proud father of two daughters, Billie and Bonnie and one granddaughter, Erin. He was a long time member of First Christian Church in Salem. Bill was in the Army Reserves and was an excellent marksman, competing on the Army pistol team. He also enjoyed hunting with his friends and sons-in-law, and woodworking. He was a loving husband and father who gave so much to his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. A very special thank you goes to the caring nurses and staff at Richfield Recovery Center who made the last days of his life as comfortable as possible. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Memorial Fund at First Christian Church, 712 Front Street, Salem, Va. 24153 or to the charity of your choice, in his memory. Funeral service will be conducted 3 p.m. Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at Lotz Salem Chapel with the Rev. Dan Netting officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Arrangements are being handled by Lotz Funeral Home, Salem.

I was so sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Victorine. He was such a fine and interesting man. He tuned my piano every year since the early eighties and he had so many stories to tell about his life and family.
He was always interested in my plumeria plant from Hawaii. I gave him a plant and he would always tell me how it was doing and when it would bloom. He will really be missed.

I am very sorry to hear of Mr. Victorine's passing. He tuned my piano for 26 years, since I was a child. He always talked of his family and dogs.

I appreciated his encouragement for my children to watch as he tuned and then have them "play" the piano for him. We will miss him greatly.

Though I do not know the Victorine family personally, you are very much in my thoughts and prayers. May God's peace be with you during this time.
