Gilbert Kesler Obituary

Gilbert Haynes Kesler, 88, of Salem, Va., passed away on Monday, January 4, 2010. He was born on December 2, 1921, in Salem, Va., son of the late Robert and Cary Hale Kesler. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Ivy Hight Kesler; and eight brothers. Mr. Kesler was a retired x-ray assistant from the VA Administration Medical Center, a member of Taylor Masonic Lodge #23 and was a United States Navy World War II veteran. He is survived by stepson, Danny Bayse and wife, Kate; stepdaughter, Peggy Hale; two grandsons; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with the Rev. Roger Counts officiating. Interment will be private at Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Kesler's memory to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
