Fred Spangler Obituary

Fred M. Spangler, of Vinton, Va., passed away on Monday, January 4, 2010. Dad went to be with Mom. He passed in his sleep at the VA Hospital. Born on December 28, 1918, he was 91 and we made the most of it going fishing when ever we could. We were just catching catfish just a few short months ago. He was a World War II Vet and drove a tank in battle all over Europe in the Army 1st Armored Division. He was injured and wanted to go back to the front lines with his buddies. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty L. Spangler. Surviving are his son, Perry Spangler; daughter, Robin Spangler Rock; and his two cats. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, January 8, 2010 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at The Woodland Place, 935 Niagara Road, Vinton with Pastor Mike officiating. Memorials may be made to the Vinton First Aid Crew.

Bruce and I are sorry to hear of Fred's passing. He was a customer at our garage in years past. He was a fine gentleman who obviously loved life. I seem to remember he was working at Lowe's during his 'retirement' years, which said a lot about the man. We always enjoyed talking to Fred and have missed him. We know you will miss him too.

Perry, Robin and Families,

I am sadden to hear of Fred's passing, what a wonderful tribute of your father. I have not seen Fred since Uncle Leonard passed and Edith passed but remember seeing him when my mother Juanita and grandpa AJ Spangler would visit him when he still lived off 9th street. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.
