Arlene Kay Obituary

Arlene Hale Kay, formerly of Salem, Virginia, died Thursday, January 7, 2010, at her home in Aiken, South Carolina after a long battle with cancer. She was 71. Born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Natalie Harding Hale. She is survived by her husband of 19 years, Robert B. Kay Sr.; sons, Robert E. Webb, of Troutville, Virginia and Robert B. Kay Jr. (and wife, Tiffany), of Columbia, South Carolina; as well as grandson, Charles E. Webb, of Troutville; and granddaughters, Madeline and Lily Reese Kay, of Columbia. She had lived all over the United States and in Germany as a military wife to her first husband during the 1960's and 70's and was a top realtor in Alexandria, Virginia before moving in the early 80's to Salem, where she continued her real estate career and also perfected her golf game. Gifted in the art of friendship, she kept in touch with new and old friends from all the places she had lived, including a group of 15 high school girlfriends from New Jersey who met every year for fun-filled weekends at one or the other's home. Arlene was an impeccable dresser, avid reader, and superb hostess. Her delightfully inimitable laugh will be forever remembered by her family and friends. Her wish was that, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions might be made to Community School, 7815 Williamson Rd., Roanoke, Va. 24019 or www.communityschool.net. A funeral service will be held at Beaufort National Cemetery in Beaufort, South Carolina on Friday, January 15, 2010, at 12:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to www.georgefuneralhomes.com.
