Roy Knowles Obituary

Mr. Roy Eugene Knowles, 91, of Stuart, Va., passed away on Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at his home. He was born in West Virginia on May 31, 1918, to the late David Early and Elva Austin Knowles. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ann P. Klemmer Knowles; one son, David Knowles; one sister, Stella Harris; and two brothers, David Early Knowles Jr. and Jack Wilson. He had retired from Masonite Corporation as an electrician, and had served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Mountain Lodge #263 and American Legion Post #8467. Mr. Knowles is survived by one daughter-in-law, Carolyn Knowles, of Eagle River, Alaska; two granddaughters, Margaret Knowles Pease, of Kirkland, Wash., and Kathryn Knowles, of Eagle River, Alaska; one sister, Kathleen Layman, of Stuart; one brother, Pat Knowles, of Meadows of Dan; many loving nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Mildred Stanley. Funeral services for Mr. Knowles will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, January 18, 2010, at Meadows of Dan Baptist Church conducted by Pastor Michael Shockley with Masonic Rites by Mountain Home Lodge #263. Burial will follow in Knowles-Eden Cemetery with Military Rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Knowles-Eden Cemetery Fund, c/o Carl Sehen, 2774 Bent Road, Meadows of Dan, Va. 24120 or to Meadows of Dan VFW Post #8467, c/o Rex Faris, 333 Burnette Road, Meadows of Dan, Va. 24120.
