I was deeply saddened by our great loss. I served with David for many years the Oversight Committee his input will be missed. I will greatly miss my eating my meals with David at the Blue Star Cafe in Buchanan on my way home to the Peoples Republic of Texas. What a loss to his friends and family. My respect for David will always be with me. God bless David.

To the Layman Family, I was very saddened to learn of David's passing. I had the great pleasure of working with David at C&P Telephone over thirty years ago. David was the one that got me involved in CWA in the 1970s. He was truely a great Unionist and leader. I always looked forward to seeing him at CWA Conventions. I was saddened to learn of David's death. I worked with him for a number of years on the 6th District Democratic Committee and always found him trustworth, wise, and helpful. He had the rare knack of being able to find solutions to problems. I know his family will miss him greatly, and the Democratic Party will miss him too. He personified the truly dedicated person who worked in the political sphere.

As 1st Vice Chair of the Roanoke City Democratic Committee, I had spoken with David a couple of times recently and emailed frequently regarding the upcoming 6th District and State Conventions. I had seen him at several events for Sam Rasoul over the last few months. We valued his leadership and always appreciated his support. If David didn’t know the answer to a question, he always knew how to get it and get back to you. He will be sorely missed and never forgotten.

There are no words that can tell you how very deeply David will be missed. I worked with David in Roanoke, Virginia during the years of C&P, Bell Atlantic and Verizon until my retirement in 2000. David was a good friend and coworker. The times I worked with David for CWA Local 2204 or events dealing with the Democratic Party will always be in my memories, but what will stand out the most is the loving, caring, devoted family person David was to not just his own family but those of us with the telephone company family. My husband Henry and I will keep you all in our prayers.

Ann & Family,
I had the privilege of working with David during the Verizon & Bell Atlantic years. Aside from being an artisan and a dependable coworker, Dave and I shared many humorous moments during the work day. He had a great sense of humor and his presence enhanced the work experience. I can honestly say that David is an individual I admired and respected. It was a pleasure knowing him.

I have lost my 'older brother'. The years we sat next to each other I will cherish. He was a true southern gentleman - which describes not only his ways, but his personality. David had a gift for knowing the right thing to say whether it be humorous or sincere. He greeted acquaintances with a smile on his face and left them feeling good, it was easy to tell that he enjoyed being with people.
