Jane Wilson Obituary

Jane A. Wilson 1946 ~ 2009 Jane Adamson Wilson passed away April 7, 2009, in Salt Lake City, Utah from complications of liver disease and amyloidosis. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Jane's faith was a rock in the river of her life around which everything else flowed. Jane partook avidly of the best that life has to offer, including education, music, fine arts, literature, and travel. She especially relished her trips to France and the unique art and food she encountered there. Jane had a lovely alto voice and enjoyed singing and playing the piano. The heart of a large and loving extended family, Jane opened her house to a steady flow of relatives and friends. Relishing any reason to celebrate, she created many special traditions including fabulous birthday parties and tasty Christmas toffee. She was each family members' biggest fan, attending as many recitals, games, and school performances as she could. Jane was a wonderful teacher, and especially enjoyed teaching children. She never missed an opportunity to share a teaching moment. Her special gift, for which she will be most remembered, is her quiet way of supporting the people in her life. As mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, she listened; she nurtured without doting; she loved without judging; she gently guided others to discover and pursue what brought them joy, and this brought her happiness. Her family and friends will miss her quiet strength and abundant love. Jane was born October 3, 1946, to Jack Hale Adamson and Margaret Boyle in Salt Lake City. She married Edward B. Wilson, June 10, 1968 (later divorced). Jane attended Stewart School, East High School, and graduated cum laude with a BA in French from the University of Utah and MBA from Westminster College. She began her career teaching French. Jane worked for 30 years for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, supporting biomedical research as a Manager of Administrative Services. She was essential to HHMI's establishment and growth at the University of Utah. Jane was extremely honored to play a supporting role in the 2007 Nobel Prize winning research of Mario Capecchi at the University of Utah. She is survived by her children Laura deLannoy (Martin), Anne Marie Smith (Jim), Ted Wilson, and Sarah Carlson (Dustin); grandchildren Sam, Joseph, Caroline, Cameron, Michael, and Henry; and brothers, Doug, John, and David, many beloved in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 13th at 1:00 p.m. at the Monument Park Stake Center, 1320 S. Wasatch Drive. Viewing will be Sunday, April 12th from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary 2350 East 1300 South and beginning at 11:30 a.m. prior to the funeral on Monday. Interment immediately follows at the Salt Lake City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations for amyloidosis research at: The UCLA Foundation, in Memory of Jane Wilson Fund #90277E Division of Physical Sciences, UCLA College Development Department, Box 951413, 1309 Murphy Hall, Los Angeles, CA 90095-1413 or to Primary Childrens' Medical Center. Adamson family-I am so sorry to hear about Jane's illness and passing away. I have been out of town and I just talked with my sister Barbara today and she told me about it. My memories of Jane are just as beautiful as those in the obituary. I admired her for her pretty face, her beautiful voice, her intelligent mind, and her kind personality. I pray that you may have peace in your hearts even though you will miss her greatly. Fondly, Sue Bennion McQueen

Jane Wilson is one of my favorite people; hard working, talented and helpful. Everyone may not know what a good teacher she is as well as a good organizer and leader. I have enjoyed working with her so much and cherish the time we spent in Primary together. My family sends their condolences and are sorry we were out of town for the funeral.

When my parents divorced my Dad and I moved next door to the Wilsons on Foothill Drive. Perhaps seeing the need for a good matronly figure in my life, Jane made me feel very welcome in her home and I'm sure her children got more than tired of my frequent visits. Jane was always someone I could talk to and I enjoyed her love and compassion. Right before I left on my mission, Jane asked me to spend the afternoon with her in Salt Lake. We wandered around the temple grounds and shared our thoughts on life and the future. Part of who I am today comes from her wisdom and insight. I will always cherish those memories.

Thanks Wilson family for sharing your mother with me. I hope you find peace knowing of all the impacts she made on people throughout her life.
