Knut Odland Obituary

Knut Harold Odland 8/15/57 ~ 4/14/07 Our loving brother, uncle and friend, left unexpectedly and tragically on April 14, 2007 with his brothers and family at his side. Knut died tragically from injuries inflicted in an auto/pedestrian accident on April 13, 2007, at 1700 South Main Street, Salt Lake City, Utah Knut was born in Salt Lake City, Utah to Knut M. and Eli J. Odland, who emigrated from Norway to Utah. He attended Highland High School. As a teenager he moved to Arendal, Norway for a few years to be with his parents, who returned to their ancestral homeland. Knut lived life doing things his way and he was a maverick in his own right. He enlisted in the United States Army in the Combat Engineers and served during Desert Storm. He felt it was important to serve his country since all his brothers have served in the Armed Forces. He worked with the US Postal Service as a mail carrier for many years, later working in construction and concrete trades. Knut had a great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing stories with his family and friends. In his early years he played little league baseball and junior league football and has always loved these sports. He had a habit of talking your ear off with the latest game statistics and he could also solve the world politics if you had the time to listen to him. Knut was a city dweller and enjoyed his weekly lunches with his brother. His favorite place to get a cup of coffee was the Hideaway Bar and Grill, where he had good friends to converse with. "I have not lived a perfect life, but I have tried, and I know in whom I have trusted". Knut always carried in his pocket a small Bible. Knut is survived by his brothers and sisters, Kjetil (Dinah) Odland; Tim (Barbara) Odland; Lisa M. Haugmoen - Maine; Karen-Eli Nesland and Leif O. Odland - Arendal, Norway. He is preceded in death by his parents, Knut M. and Eli J. Odland - Arendal, Norway; and brothers-in-law, Ranger Haugmoen, and Knut Nesland - Arendal, Norway. Graveside Services will be held Friday, April 27, 2007, 1:00 p.m. at the Utah State Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park, 17111 Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah. In lieu of flowers send donations to the Knut Odland Memorial Fund at any US Bank or Transwestern Credit Union.

Dear Tim, Barbara and nephews,
Although I have few memories of Knut the ones that I have are still memorable. I remember him as a quite and kind person. He had a smile that made you believe he understood what you were saying or feeling at the moment. I am so sorry that he had such a tragic death. I believe he is back with his loved ones, like your parents. I thought it was touching when I talked to Barbara and she stated that now she doesn't have to worry any more about Knut suffering during cold winter nights. I believe he is experiencing great warmth and love from his family and friends that have gone before him.
My prayers and thoughts are with all of you.
Love, your Aunt Julie

My dear "Onkel Knut" will remain in my memories as the person he truly was. A kind, loving person who new how to have a good time. I will always remember Knut's contagious laugh and great sense of humor. I know his brothers and sisters loved Knut with all of their hearts. And I'm certain Knut's friends, the people he socialized with on a daily basis, will notice the void. I love you Knut, and so does everyone else who's life you touched. You wil sorely be missed.

My Dear Uncle Knut Harold had the greatest heart and the sweetest spirit. We children loved being with him when he visited Norway. We'd play football with him, baseball or just be around him. He was kind to everyone around him and was just a beautiful person.
He is in our hearts and in our prayers constantly.
While we are mourning the loss of our brother, uncle and friend, others are rejoicing to meet him behind the veil.

I have many good memories of Knut when we were young. Especially playing neighborhood baseball, football and basketball. He had great talent and abilities both on and off the playing field and I was glad we were friends.
Those good memories will stay with me and I know your memories of Knut will keep him close to each of you as well.
