Nancy Perez Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 4, 2001.
Many Things for Children
A classic Nancy Perez story is about how she started taking karate in the late '90's and one day met a class of deaf children at her karate school.

Intrigued, Ms. Perez, left, began learning American Sign Language and ended up teaching karate to the children she had befriended.

"She would do anything for anyone," said Marie Roman, one of her best friends. "I don't remember what level she got to in karate but she learned sign language in six months."

"She was an upbeat person," Ms. Roman said. "We did country line-dancing, we went to Graceland, we took boxing lessons."

Ms. Perez, 36, was a Port Authority supervisor at One World Trade Center. Single and childless, she doted on children. She even wrote a book about a little boy afraid to go to school for her 8-year-old cousin, Kyle McCann. It was printed by a friend who was a graphic artist.

Ms. Perez was always learning something new, said Maritza Conti, her older sister. She enjoyed traveling and also got a kick out of taking their parents around New York, especially the Broadway shows. The family of three girls came to New York from Cuba in 1970.

"Nancy was a wonderful person, sister, aunt, godmother and daughter," Ms. Conti said. "She just lived life to the fullest."

My Dearest Friend: We little knew that morning, that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly; in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you; you did not go alone - For part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and although we can not see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again.
Hugs, Marie

10 Years my friend! I think of you often. Not in sorrow anymore, but with laughter.

Well I finally found LUCY VARGAS - she's in CA and she seems happy from the pics, we keep missing each other's call, but we now can keep in touch. Funny, Sergio DelaVega was the one who got me her contact information on Facebook along with Eva. Sad to say I lost another good friend. Sergio passed away this last August. I will never forget either of you. I try to keep in contact with friends who have given me so many happy memories in my life and thank God that they are a part of life. When one goes, a little piece of me goes with them. I have learned to cherish the time God has given us on this Earth. You are a good friend and someday I hope to see your beautiful smile and hear your sweet laugh again and maybe run a mile or two with Sergio -:).

Thank you for the great memories you gave me. Que Dios Te Guarde Amigita.

Love You - Sandrita :)

Nancy, in my mind I remember you in high school always smiling and with something funny to say or add to the conversation. We use to hang out after lunch by the mailbox in the corner in front of Emerson. I am sorry your life was cut short, I'm sure you had so much more to offer and give to this world. Even though it has been 10 years, it seems like yesterday. I hope your soul has found peace and you are at rest.

September 11, 2010

I was thinking about you today. Although I did not really get to know you, my mom & dad (Rafael & Zaida Carnicer) were very fond of you and often commented about their conversations with you. They had a special place in their hearts for you and through them I felt like I knew you a little.
Rest in peace, you will never be forgotten and your family will always be in my prayers.
Sincerely,

Hey Nancy,

I've been watching re-runs of "Touched by an Angel", don't know why but the way the world is going on today they should bring that show back. You know they say time heals everything and the pain I felt when I found out you were gone and in such a way, hurt me so much, that for the past few years the pain felt as if it was new. But after seeing the show for the last few months brought me confort knowing that you were surrounded by angels nine years ago today and still are. I'm not very religious, (and it's just a show) but it does have a very strong message that we tend to forget. I believe in GOD and angels and that we will see each other someday again. I still miss you, but I take comfort knowing that you are someplace safe, happy and in good hands - Until we meet again, you are always in my heart and memories.

Love You
:) Sandrita

Hey Nancy - 8 years my friend - So much has happened this year. I've been trying to locate Lucy Vargas, for some time and for some reason I can't locate her. It's like she fell off he face of the earth. I remember us being the 3 muskateers, along with Delia, and Martica. So many memories. I can honestly say, I love my high school days in Emerson and Union Hill. Maybe you can find Lucy for me - I remember us three in the Halls of Emerson, you with your crush on "El Doctor" and her with her obsession with her Hair. Funny, so much has changed in the world since you left us. Global Warming, Recycling, Micheal Jackson died - Hey have you seen him around? (LOL) The latest trend now is Facebook and social networking, I'm just know getting to know a bit about it. You would most definitely be on my friends list. As for me, I'm doing ok here in Fla. Still working as a legal secretary, still married, 9 years (WOW), he's great though, you would have liked Derick. He's my "El Doctor" LOL - My kids are doing great, Jenny 25, just got back from Ireland. She met a guy (he seems nice) and he invited her to visit him. He lives in Ireland. She's still trying to get into a Dance Company. Tyler will be 8 on 11/13 and Cristina will be 5 on 12/13. This year my Grandma turned 100 in February, just like you only her birthday is 2/8. We went up to visit her and she looks great for a Centurian - I didn't stop by your memorial. It still hurts that you are not physically here. But, I know you are happy and smiling down on us with your big blue eyes - Thanks for being such a big part in my life and for always keeping me smiling when I am going through some bad times. I know God has you in a special place and I'm sure you've earned your wings by now :)

- I love you and miss you
Sandrita :)

There were lottery tickets at the counter and I bought one she turned to me and said mommy maybe we will win because Nancy always helps you. I scratched off the ticket and won $100.00. Once again you were there for me. I just wish that you could be here in person because I miss you so much and really need for you to help me out in a situation that we are going through. Nancy, as Ileana's sister, I had the gift of enjoying your company and meeting such as wonderful person, you made all my family truly take you in as one of our own. I know my sister misses you terribly, and Jorge my husband always remembers you from cuba, when your family lived close by, Today I felt that I needed an angel to comfort me, and knew it was time to let you know, I miss you in our get togethers at the parties for Emily my niece, and in our lives. Thanks for making me laugh at the bank when you use to run in after the bank was closed and bang on that door, I always let you in cause I knew you had been rushing, I wish I could see that cute smile at the door again and hear that "oop's sorry I am late once again", lOVE AND MISS YOU, You will always be a part of our lives. Bless you and all your beautiful family.

Dear Nancy,

It has been six years and it still feels like yesterday. It has been difficult to write but please know that a day doesn’t go by that I think of you, Arlene, my hubby and all the others whom we knew and passed on. You were a very special friend, thank you for all the talks we shared, and the comfort you gave me that morning. Wished we had more time to get to know each other better, but I thank God for blessing me in having the opportunity to have met a special person like you. I guess one day we will all meet again and we can still have our lunch date we had planned for Thursday. I won’t forget our Cuban sandwich spot at lunch time and all the laughs we shared. Miss u my friend. My thoughts and prayers are always with your family.

With love, your friend always,

Dear Nancy,
Although it's already been 5 1/2 years, I was just told about this website. Although I never personally knew you, I do remember you from high school. We crossed each other many many times in the hallway and said hello. I have, however, shared special memories with your sister, Yolanda. I was there in your parent's house the day of 911 when your parents expected that most precious call from you to say that you were ok. I was saddened and felt the intense vibrations in that house as the hours went by and no phone call. Your parents are so sweet... they remind me so much of mine. Yolanda has always been a very good friend of mine and although we haven't kept in touch recently, I always think of her and wonder how her and your niece and nephew are doing. It's important to keep in touch with good friends.... that's why I must call her soon to see how she is. Life is very short. I know they think about you every day and I HAVE NO DOUBT IN MY MIND that you are with your family at all times. I'm sure of it, especially in the stories your sister has shared with me since you passed.

Love,

Five years have gone by and I still cannot accept that you are no longer here. I still have your phone number, your flan recipe and a very clear memory of every story you told at "margarita nights". Maybe you were right. I continue to escape with denial. How can I accept that I should have called you back righ after you left me a message to get together again. I live in a world where I can pick up the phone and you'll still be there, still a wonderful friend I took for granted, still making fun of the world and still warm hearted. In my world you will go on forever. I can't cry for you because I find myself smiling every time I think of you. I hope you think of me too.

I accidentally came across your name as I was doing a research. How neat to find someone with the same name as mine and had the same interest as mine. I am now doing a missionary internship preparing to help children with special needs.

I hope your family and friends will pray for my success in this endeavor.

Nancy,

Four years have past but it feels like yesterday. The pain is always in our parent's eyes. Help us take care of them.

This week Nicole, Brendan and Brianna started preschool. We know you would've been the proud Tia.

Watch over them!!!!!!

Love, Yolanda

Nancy, I miss you so much. I think about you every day. I wish you could have met Brianna Nancy. I will always talk to her about you, so she will know how very special you were and will always be to me. I love you my beautiful cousin. Irma

Nancy,

I'm watching the 9/11 tribute on TV and as they mentioned your name I shed a tear. Sonya and I miss you soooo much. I always loved the way you made me feel......like a true member of your family. I know Vince would've loved you and I'm sure you'll watch over my little angel in heaven.

Ciao Bella,

Sal
