Mary Trentini Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 13, 2001.
To See the Grandchildren
In retirement, James and Mary Trentini traveled at every opportunity, wherever their fancy took them. But in particular they liked to go to California to see their daughter Patti in Irvine.

Patti was the mother of three of their grandchildren, ages 2 to 7, and it was great fun to haul the grandchildren off to the beach or to soccer games or, most of all, to Disneyland.

Mr. Trentini, 65, a former schoolteacher, and Mrs. Trentini, 67, a former school secretary, lived in Everett, Mass. But every Christmas would find them in Irvine and sometimes they would linger there for weeks, lavishing attention on the grandchildren while waiting for the warmth of spring to return to New England.

This year they headed out to California early. Patti had called to say that she and her husband, Donald Paris, were planning to take a couple of weeks of vacation back east on Martha's Vineyard and would "Grandpa" and "Mimmie" mind flying out to the West Coast to baby-sit?

The Trentinis immediately booked a flight for Los Angeles: American Airlines Flight 11, the flight they always took west. They were scheduled to fly out Sept. 10, and had so many presents for the grandchildren that they needed an extra suitcase. Then Mr. Trentini was summoned for a day of jury duty on the 10th. They rebooked for Sept. 11.

Profile published in THE NEW YORK TIMES on December 13, 2001.

Mary, 67, of Rowley, MA, perished in the crash of American Airlines Flight #11 on September 11, 2001. Wife of the late James "Jim" Trentini. Survived by her four loving children, Patti Trentini of Irvine, CA, Paige Landry of Rowley, MA, Pamela Trentini of Newburyport, MA and Jimmy Trentini of Daytona Beach, FL. Beloved by her four grandchildren, Albert Landry, Parker, Payton and Piper Paris. Mary was a long time assistant to the Athletic Director at Triton High School in Byfield. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rowley, MA at 10 a.m., Saturday, September 15. Please come to celebrate the life and mourn the passing of this gentle person.

To the Tentini Family...

While I never met your father, even now my eyes tear when I remember your mother asking to be put on the 2002 Reunion committee at Spartanburg High School...

I hope to participate in this year's Memorial Golf Tournament to share in remembering our great loss of such good people as your parents...

Patti:

Well, my little Jimmy turned 15 yesterday, so it has been 15 years since I met you at Hoag NICU. I remember your mom and dad so well from kindergarten at St. Andrews. I remember sitting in front of them at the Christmas play when Parker was playing Jospeh and how proud they were. Your mom was beautiful inside and out. I recently saw a picture of Parker in the Daily Pilot Cup. Can't believe it has been 6 years. Just want you to know I'm thinking about you today and praying for the Lord to comfort you.

Dear Patti, Paige, Pam, and Jimmy, I am writing to express my sincere condolences for the loss of your Mom and Dad. I often think about life growing up in Rowley and how your parents made our lives there fun, happy and safe. Please look back upon your lives in Rowley and understand that almost everybody knew and liked your parents very much. I know I did. And Jimmy if you ever come to Japan, please get in touch with me.

My deepest sympathies to all of the Trentini's. I went to school with Paige, and remember your family well. I hope that the passing of time has helped to ease your pain a bit. Even though it has been so many years since my days in Rowley, I immediately recognized Mr. & Mrs Trentini's name when the terrible news came on September 11th. I wish all the best to the family.

Mary sounds like a warm, caring, wife, mother, and grandmother. Also it sounds like the neighborhood kids and school students had a great regard for her. This is so tragic for all concerned, to loose one loving parent is almost too much but loosing both is a burden no one should have to bear. My prayers go out to each member of the family and friends. May your memories bring you some peace and comfort in the future as you begin to heal.

Dear Patti, Pam, Paige, & Jimmy,

Although it has been many years since I've seen any of you, I certainly well remember all of you, your parents & the house on Pleasant St. in Rowley. It was Kellie that called me, when she heard the news about your parents, my Mother that sent me the Newburyport News with the memorial article, & my father & brother Jim, both e-mailed me with the information about this memorial site. Please know that we too share your loss & have great memories of growing up in Rowley with all of you! Why God felt he needed such wonderful people in heaven when they gave so much to so many here on earth, none of us will ever understand! Please know that our hearts ache for you & all your family, & that we will never forget you're wonderful parents, or the tragic events of 9/11! God Bless You All!!!!

Love & Prayers,

Lori (Amidon) Brabant, Formerly of Rowley,MA

I remember the many times watching Albert Landry and picking him up at Mary and Jim's. Jim was always offering a cup of tea or a glass of milk with something to eat. Their home was always a happy and welcoming place. Their departure is a very sad loss for us here on earth but the angels in heaven are now SO lucky! Mary and Jim, I appreciate all you did for us and the positive people you were. Thank you!

We are deeply sorry for your loss of Mary and Jim. Such a tragic loss. May their lives and love live on in you. May you always feel the warmth of their love surround you. Our hearts cry with you.

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn

To the Trentini Family,

I am so saddened by the loss of your parents. I have worked with Pam and Paige for the last 2 years at Legal Sea Foods. Whenever Jim and Mary came in everyone wanted to go up to them and talk to them. Everyone loved them. We all love Paige and Pam so much and still can't comprehend why this could happen to the nicest family. You are in my thoughts and prayers everyday. God Bless you all.

My Auntie Mary was a beautiful woman. Her caring ways touched so many lives. Most of the time she did so through her talents in arts and crafts. She could paint, build, and sew anything. She had hands of gold. Auntie Mary mastered everything from ceramics, floral wrethes, and flower arrangements, to dolls, clothes, wood work, wallpapering, carpentry, you name it.. I'll never forget the Christmas when she made my sister a "Holly Hobbie Doll" and a "Raggedy Ann Doll" for me. She even sewed a dress for me that was identical to the one that Raggedy Ann wore. What fun I had that year! I'll also never forget each Christmas Eve (my birthday) when Auntie Mary would make my favorite pound cake with Pineapple, because she knew I didn't like many sweets. She made me feel so special! Both her and Uncle Jimmy were my godparents, and I'm extremely grateful to have had such beautiful people touch my life. They gave so much love and support to my family and the rest of the Trentini family throughout their lives. And, boy, did we have some fun family times! I'll never forget Uncle Jimmy keeping us in stitches at all the family get-togethers, while Auntie Mary quietly laughed beside him. She wasn't in the spotlight as much as Uncle Jimmy was. She didn't have to be. Her kind and thoughtful ways never went unnoticed. I'll miss both Auntie Mary and Uncle Jimmy dearly. The happy times our family had together will last forever!

I light this candle for you
