The insurance industry will miss a great friend and ambassador. Dick worked tirelessly to promote independent insurance agents and their issues. Dick would tackle a tough issue when many others would walk away. Dick had a great sense of humor. I can remember him standing many times in a group of people telling stories and belting out that signature laugh. Although I haven't seen Dick in some time, it was always nice knowing he was there and he would always be an advocate for my industry. This is truly a great loss. My family offers their prayers to the entire Dethloff family.

I was saddened this morning to hear of Mr. Dethloff's death. I worked for Dick, Curt and Edd for several years as a young woman, newly married. I got my start as a receptionist at DJM and eventually became a CSR. I am forever grateful for the education I learned of the industry while working at DJM. I was always impressed with Mr. Dethloff's knowledge of the insurance industry. I have worked for several agents through the years, none could compare. Mr. Dethloff had a wonderful laugh and I will always remember his kindness to me.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to Carl Richard (Dick) Dethloff our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Dick. And to Dick it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during the Korean War while serving in the U.S. Air Force. Dick we bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at Ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,452 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Dick’s family and loved ones.
