Diamond family, I am so sorry for your loss. Mr. Diamond showed me a great kindness. He hired me to work on the switchboard at the newpaper when I really needed a job. I was only 23, and he took a chance hiring me. I later found out that my mother Mary Kruszewski) was his nanny when he was just a little boy. He was a very nice man, I will keep him in my prayers.

My Dad, Angelo Sterlacci worked in Maintenance in the 60's and had high regard for Mr. Diamond. Mr. Diamond was gracious to attend my dad's funeral in 1965. My sympathy to the family.

I was hired by Richard just after serving in the Air Force in 1965 & had the pleasure of working for him for four years. I read about his passing today & felt compiled to write. He was a man among men. I will always remember him as a fair & kind person & one I would look up to. God bless him and his family.

Great leader in the newspaper industry. As a former advance carrier (as a young boy) I watched the Advance grow under Richard's leadership and still read it in Arizona today. God bless!

My father Carl Haugen Sr. was a friend to the Diamonds and I know he would say that he was a great person who through his dedication and contributions to the community made Staten Island the kind of place we were all fortunate enough to be raised.

Dear Caroline,
I recently returned to SI to live after almost 20 years away. My Mom told me about your Dad's passing. I wanted you to know that I have often thought of you and your family over the years, and the time we spent as children playing at your house grades K-8. You were my best friend, and I loved to visit and sleep over your house. Of course, the house was so beautifully decorated, and your Mom and Emma were always so kind to us. And Sony and Richie were fun to tease. I fondly remember your Dad coming home after work, talking to us about the doings of the day, and sitting down to dinner in the dining room with a big smile on his face. Your Dad was just a year older than mine, and I could never imagine losing either one of them. My heart goes out to you and your family. Please accept my sincere sympathies and pass my condolences to the rest of your family. I hope to have the pleasure of seeing all of you sometime again.
Warm regards,
Donna Oliva

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Diamond but warmed by the memories of meeting him and of hearing how much he meant to so many people. His legacy is secure with the imprint he has left on this business and in the industry shoes that are being so competently filled by his son Richard and daughter Caroline. What a wonderful man he was. It was a pleasure to have met him. I pray that his family and friends will be consoled by his memory and by the many hearts and prayers that are reaching out to them at this time.

In addition to being a wonderful boss to my father, Gary, for over 30 years, Mr. Diamond was instrumental in the development of my career as well. He gave me the opportunity to intern at the Advance as a reporter during the summers of 1992-1995. When I decided to attend graduate school in Florida, he wrote me a glowing letter of recommendation and helped me get my first job in Florida, in advertising sales.
His kindness and generosity is something I'll never forget. My condolences to the family.

I've been thinking of all of you Staten Islanders/Diamonds very hard, all day. I know you are beautiful and put together in spite of this huge loss. Who will do all of the family history sharing that Richard did so well? Perhaps my mom has already welcomed him to life everlasting. Cousins can do that. I'm missing not being with you all-but thinking of you lots.

I was saddened to hear of Dick's death. My condolences go out to his family.
I didn't know him as well as most, but I always looked forward to the wisdom that he would share during his visits to The Flint Journal. Many times we would end up talking about the New York Giants, which we both loved, or about the story behind the tie that he happened to be wearing that day. I enjoyed them all.
I'm glad that I had the opportunity to meet him during my life, and will continue to try to heed his, as well as my dad's, advice to do the right thing.
May he rest in peace.

My deepest empathy to the Diamond
family,relatives,friends and
colleagues on the passing of Richard
"the voice of the Island" and much
more. His love and pride for his
family and friends was always
apparent at Temple Israel when we
would chat. As my Diane obm has
gone to eternal rest and peace,
Richard also earned a large share
in the World to Come-free of pain-
and near to us all with affection.
May sweet memories help sustain
you all at this difficult time and
may Faith in love of the Highest
One bring you healing of the heart.
Diane obm was very fond of Richard
and held him in great esteem for
his many contributions to our
commmunity. She was a daily reader
of the Advance and it gave her much
pleasure.
Be strong. Dad and Diane are in
a much better place...

I shall ever be grateful to Dick for hiring me as a reporter for the Staten Island Advance in December 1959. He was so full of energy and decisiveness, even for one so young. He shepherded us through the move from Castleton Avenue to Fingerboard Road and on to a bigger and better Advance. I left in 1963 for Florida and will mark 40 years as a reporter for The Florida Times-Union in Jacksonville next month. I have thought of Dick often as I look back over newspapering, and also of Rosemary Bower, Les Trautmann, Lee Landes and Walter Hogan. My deepest regards to Dick's family.
