I never met Nathan. I was visiting my finances family at the cemetery when I came across his headstone. As a veteran I could not help but go back to my truck to weep. Too many of this nation's finest gave the ultimate sacrifice. Semper Fi brave Marine.

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and several of these will be dedicated to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and hometown of Nathan P. Hays US Marine Sergeant.

We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community, their families and friends and others who support our mission.

We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

It is difficult to know what to say since I want to express my true sympathy to the family and friends of Sgt Hays. Please know that your loved one is not forgotten. I wish everyone impacted by this tragic loss strength and peace. I hope that Sgt Hays knew that there are people in America who respect his great courage in serving as a member of the US military. Although I did not know him, I know that he must have been a very special person to be willing to do something that most Americans will never have to experience and for that we can never say thank you enough.
Thank you Sgt Hays!

To Nathan: My friend, my comrade in arms. I will always remember your gentle confidence, kindness, and unselfish devotion to service. You continue to be an inspiration.
To Nathan's family: It was an honor knowing Nathan. I was very proud when I first received word of his enlistment in the Marine Corps and was not surprised when I learned of his quick ascension through the enlisted ranks. He always was an outstanding leader. Every mission I have flown over Afghanistan brought memories of Nathan. I recall our time together as kids with great fondness and he is often in my thoughts as are all the members of your family. You will all be in my prayers. May God grant us all peace.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

In Rememberance of Sgt. Nathan P. Hays, may he rest in the Loving Care of God and know that he is a True American hero, that shall NEVER BE FORGOTTEN.
I Pray that God's Loving Grace and Comfort continues to be with the Hays family.
There will never be enough ways,
to humbly thank these Heroes,
for their Supreme Sacrifice,
my brother among them. KIA-Vietnam 1967.

Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on...
And cherished memories never fade, because a loved one's gone....
Those we love can never be, more than a thought apart....
For as long as there is memory, They'll live on in the heart.
May the memories of your loved one, live on in your heart always.
I am so sorry for your loss.

To the family and friends

I have only just begun this journey and may not have known your loved one personally.

I extend to you my deepest condolences. No words will ever express the grief those close to this lost treasure are feeling. I can only say that I can share this grief as I too lost a loved one July 8, 2006. I will continue to pray for the safety of our soldiers and especially the family and friends of our lost hero’s. I only hope the memories will carry us through. I will continue pray that you also will believe and know that our heavenly father will not give us more than we can handle.

As always I read (and cry) through the memorials of our lost hero’s, So many people have already expressed the things I would also say. I am amazed and take comfort that so many people care. I can only thank you for the sacrifice you and especially Nathan have made to protect our country. As others have said “I am only an email away.” I would be honored if you so choose to share about this fine hero.

Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
