Andrew J. Habsieger Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 26, 2008.
ST. LOUIS (AP) - The St. Louis-area town of Festus is mourning the loss of a 22-year-old native who was killed in Iraq. Andy Habsieger was among four soldiers whose death on Sunday brought the American death toll in Iraq to 4,000. The four were killed by a bomb that exploded near Baghdad. Friend Amy Edwards described Habsieger as fun-loving and happy, always smiling. She says he knew the dangers of his duty but wanted to serve his country. He joined the Army and was sent to Iraq last fall. Habsieger was due to take leave and return home in two weeks.

Hello,
We realize that we are very late to express our deepest condolences, but we wanted to let your family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to deployed troops this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Andrew J. Habsieger US Army Private First Class. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you safe and strong.

Sincerely,

Please know that just as your loved one remains in your hearts and minds; his sacrifice, and that of your family, remains with the people he died defending. Just wanted to write and say that last night was our military ball at Fort Stewart. My husband has been here for going on 7 years and is set off to deploy for his 4th time in November. I wear a KIA braclette everyday of friends of ours who we lost in May of 07. I took it off last night for the first time only because I was wearing a formal dress. I arrived at the ball and to our seats to only see that there was a KIA bracelette at each seat with a fallen soldiers name on it. I immediatly picked mine up and put it on. Today I have looked up Andy to see who he was and where he is from and to learn a little bit about him. I now have two braceletts that I will wear and just wanted to let Andys family know about this and to let them know that last night they honored all the soldiers from Fort Stewart who were KIA. I thought that it was a wonderful idea for what they did. I now know a little bit about Andy and will always remember him by wearing my bracelette and know the sacarfice he made for his country. Sorry for writing all this, but for some reason something told me to do it and I did and just wanted to let Andys family know that their son will always be remembered. <3

Hobby,
it has been over a month now since the news that you made it "home." It's hard but you always said if something happened to you to stay strong. As much as it hurts sometimes I try my hardest. I think about you every single day.. I see you every sunrise and sunset, your smile blending in to the purples and reds. I smell you every time I walk by a lilac bush, (you always wanted one but you were allergic to bees). I hear you all the time, especially when Im quiet and thinking in the car and a song comes on that reminds me of you.. lately I've been living life and appreciating everything that I experience.. which all americans should do because we are all free the way we should be.. because of you... god speed soldier and a hero to all

until we meet again, you better save me a good fishing spot. Tell papa hi and I love you both,
Ninny

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Andrew, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Our hearts go out to the family of Andy. We did not know Andy but we are retired military and in February 2007 lost our son when the Chinook helicopter he was riding in crashed in Afghanistan. He and seven other men were killed. Some were wounded so severely they may never walk again. We have bonded with another family from Edwardsville, IL who lost their young Ranger son on the same flight. Our son was a Pararescueman with a 4 month old baby daughter. We thank God every day for the treasure he left his wife and family. May you find comfort in knowing that your son chose the Army as his career and died to ensure our freedom. Maybe we all can meet one day and share the stories of our wonderful soldiers and airman. Trudy Duffman

Andy was an amazing person with an amazing personality that we were all looking forward to seeing soon. Andy is a true hero to everyone in our small town and he will never be forgotten. Because of brave people like our Andy, America is able to live freely. I am grateful for everything that Andy has done both in Festus, as my friend and classmate, and in Iraq as a brave soldier. Andy is a hero that's name and story will be told forever. He is and always will be our hero that I love and will miss forever!

To the Habsieger Family, We did not have the honor of knowing your son, our fallen hero, and we can only offer our deepest appreciations to him and to you and your husband for raising such a good man. He felt so strongly about protecting our country that he stepped up and put himself in the greatest of harms way and for that we are so sorry. We truly wish we could have known him as he sounds like a remarkable young man.

May God keep you and Bless you until you all are together again.

Habsieger Family,

I am sorry for your lose. I know that you have heard this verse BUT it is no more true then now for your son.

Greater love has no one than this, That he lay his life down for his friends John 15:13

I would like to add that, he didn't just lay his life for his friends, BUT for our country and for a countries better future. That is the ultimate love, and that will NEVER be forgotten

Your Family will be in my prayers.

Andy, Thank you for your sacrifice, from one Soldier to another. Your sacrifice wasnt in vain.

Andy
You were a stranger at a ball field, who later became a great friend, you never gave me grief and you always understand. Through the younger years of middle school I watched you act like a clown, every given moment a joke was told in town. The teenager you became now made me love you even more, you loved the high school football games and every time we scored! From late nights of homework, or the Friday nights to come, our football families stuck together and that’s why we won. Football practices, parking lots, sleep over’s to, you were a hell of a guy, a friend and that is what’s true. Andy never gave up on his beliefs and what he thought was right, he set goals to serve our country and it never left his sight. The man he became compared to the boy he use to be, is that of every American soldier wanting to be free. Andy departed from America with a goal and dream come true, he sat and listened to his grandfather at the age of just two. A dream come true, a miracle for this man to finally see, he awaited for this moment and now he is off and free.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor
traits/homepage,
where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.

I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Please know how Deeply Sorry I am, to learn of the loss of Andy Habsieger.
As a parent, who has lost a daughter suddenly and
having lost a brother to war...
I am aware of the deep and devastating pain that you are experiencing.
The overwhelming heartache, that seems to surface through our shock, as the time passes.
Please hang on to your Faith and know that you will get through this.

May the memories of your Brave Young Soldier, remain in your heart always and give you strength through the difficult days ahead, and may Andy Rest Safely now, in the Loving Care of God and know that he Will Never Be Forgotten.
I pray that the Peace of God will be with the Habsieger family.

I am the sister, of such a young Hero, who made the Ultimate Sacrifice in Vietnam, many years ago.

"Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and He shall sustain thee."
~ Psalm 55:22 ~

I sincerely hope that you can feel the thoughts of caring and support that surround you today and in the days ahead, as this Grateful Country Mourns with you, for Someone Very Precious to you, Who Is A True American Hero to all of us.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
