Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Waltenbaugh Family and friends know that we will be sending Care Packages to troops in Afghanistan this week and we'll be dedicating several of these to your loved one. Each package will carry the name, photo and the hometown of Joshua E. Waltenbaugh US Army Private 1st Class. We realize that this is a small tribute, but we do this with all respect and sincerity and we want you to know that it is made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals from across the American youth hockey community. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,
Charlie Gili & Family

Waltenbaugh,
Hey man! It's Larez. I sure do miss you man. You were my best friend in basic and I still talk to people about you. It's been so long hasn't it? We were just 17 years old. I still remember the messed up haircuts you and Cusipag got with the clippers ha ha. It was so jacked up. Anyway man, I'm glad I found this page. I've been wanting to find some sort of information on you since Misti told me about your passing. I never looked until today. I told Escobar about your passing on Facebook. It's a new Myspace maybe you'd like it. Anyway, I miss you battle. Delta Company 1st Platoon Pitbulls forever.

This day is for you. For you gave the ultimate sacrifice. Happy Memorial Day.
In a few short days it will be the 2 year anniversary since you left me. Since you left this earth. But I know you are in a better place now. A place where the the anguish no longer burdens your soul. Where you can be free of the pain and suffering you once felt. Fly on sweet angel, you are free now. The weight is off of your shoulders and has been replaced with wings. However know you are never far from me; you are always in my heart and on my mind.
You would be so proud. Your headstone is finally finished and set. It was such a bittersweet feeling. It took 2 very long years to finish, but I was not going to settle for anything less than perfect for you. It turned out amazing. Truly breathtaking. Words cannot even begin to describe how beautiful it is, it surpassed all of my expectations. I know you would love it and I made sure the helicopters were on there just for you.
You have sent me so many blessings to pick me back up. It is because of those blessing that I have learned how to laugh and smile again, for this I thank you. I know you are always looking over me.
You are always on our minds and in our hearts. We talk about you constantly, reliving such wonderful memories that were full of laughter. We often laugh when we talk about our memories, but also shed tears. Tears for the memories that will not be made, tears for the life lost. But it is all in His plan.
I miss you. Mom, Dad, Jerry, & Mikey miss you as well.
Your job here on earth is done, Soldier. It is now your time to fly on with the angels. Be the aviator you are and keep the wings maintained.
-PB&J Always,
-Your widow.

Hello,
I represent PRAYER SHAWLS 4 FALLEN SOLDIERS (PS4FS), an organization that since October 2007 has sent over 2,800 prayer shawls to military families who have lost a loved one. We are an organization of over 240 groups from all over the country. We make every effort to reach families even when post cards are returned after they have moved. Would you kindly send me a contact email/address so that we may send a loving hand-made prayer shawl to the family? Thank you!

Hey hunny,
This time last year you were on leave and in just a few days we were at my Grandpap's. Remember the drive back, and the cop stopping us because we kept going in the left lane without passing? That law was never enforced up in PA! And the stop at Wendy's because you were hungry.
Oh, and remember New Years. I made dinner for us and then we went to a get together on post. That was quite an entertaining night to say the least. But in the end, it was you and me watching the ball drop together. Plus, me having to make you mac-n-cheese at 2AM because you just "couldn't make it like I do." Or so you always said.
I'm so thankful that I got to spend our first Christmas and New Years together. Just me and you, the way you liked it. Our home isn't the same without you, but I still have your stinky old tennis shoes by the door. =] I don't have it in my heart to throw them away or move them. They are right where you left them!
I miss you and love you so much, hunny. True love never dies! Our love will live forever in my heart! And your memory will never die because there isn't a day I don't think or talk about you and remember all of our memories.
My mommy misses you a ton. We talk about you all the time. I know how much you looked up to her and loved her. She loves you just as much, hunny. Dad misses you too. I bet you're proud of his tattoo! It sure is nifty! Just wait 'til I'm finished with mine, you'll love it!
I have a big test tomorrow to get nationally certified. Send me luck and look over me! This is only one little step towards a huge leap into the medical field! I will make you so proud!
Loving you and missing you always,
your wife.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Joshua, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Prayer for Peace
Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen

To the family and parents of Joshua I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

To the Family and Friends of this Soldier:
I will stand in grief with this soldier's family to honor him. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Brent that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.
We lost our son SFC Brent A. Adams on 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday. I wish so badly there were things I could say to you right now to make the pain you are feeling go away, but I know first hand there simply are no words that will bring you the comfort and peace your heart aches for. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you go through this tragedy moment by moment and as you mourn this loss.
We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with as our hearts both burst with pride and pain together.
I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally. While they can never be replaced, neither will they ever be forgotten. You must trust that sometime, someday the loving memories you have will help to sustain you and help you go on. This courageous soldier will forever be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well.
To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is your wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever.
If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero.
God Bless this soldier and family who gave all and God Bless legacy.com for setting up this site where families can so quickly share their condolences and prayers with others like themselves.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!
I would also like to tell you about a website, http://groups.msn.com/SSPSoldierPor
traits/homepage,
where some wonderful people will make wood portraits of your fallen Hero for free for the immediate family. I became aware of this site when I wanted to do something special for Le Ron’s mother.

All soldiers are heroes but the true heroes are the parents and spouses who love them enough to let them go and experience life (both good and bad) for themselves. Thank you for supporting Joshua when he joined the military eventhough you knew he would be put in harm's way. I stand respectful and so proud
I know I’m only a civilian
And I don’t even know if it’s allowed.
But I salute you; allow me the honor

I am very sorry to hear of Joshua's passing. He was very dedicated to this country, and i'm sure just wanted to see America as well as the world become a safer place to live. I hope that at this difficult time you can find hope in Gods promise to bring what Joshua wanted to see - world peace.
Psalms 37:11 "But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace."

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

The Final Salute
“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.
This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to PFC Joshua Waltenbaugh our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for PFC Waltenbaugh. And to PFC Waltenbaugh it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. PFC Waltenbaugh, you are a brave Soldier Warrior, a Patriot and our Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.
On behalf of the 1,385 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to PFC Waltenbaugh’s family and loved ones.

In loving memory of Pfc. Joshua Waltenbaugh. I was that which others did not want to be
I went where others feared to go, and did what others failed to do.
I have seen the face of terror, felt the stinging cold of fear.
I have cried, pained, and hoped - but most of all
I have lived times others would say, were best forgotten.
At least someday I will be able to say, that I was
proud of what I was, a U.S. Army soldier.
God Bless the Waltenbaugh family
